Stil doesn’t work
When will Matt stop his playboy global gallops and return to doing some real work – like jumping on issues such as this?

In reply to: WordPress 2.7 VERY slow backendI have been reporting this same issue for months and no-one listened. I even had extended email correspondence with one of the developers and they basically blamed my connection for responding slowly to the Java calls.
This started with WP 2.5 and the roll off the old html back end onto the over-Java’d back-end. It got worse in 2.6.x and has become impossible in 2.7.x
I have basically stopped upgrading past 2.6.5 because the admin-side speed difference is completely unacceptable.
2.6.5 is usable (apart from the image manager) but 2.7.x is like trying to play Doom2 on a 3600baud modem.
The developers refuse to believe there is anything wrong with their product and have completely erased any thought regarding those of us using older computers – they seem to think everyone can afford the latest Xeon multi-core, multi-CPU computers with dedicated fibre-optic leased line connections.
I am currently investigating alternatives to WordPress because I fear it has killed itself with the over-reliance on Java and the lack of caffeine in the code.

In reply to: Help Pls – sudden loss of Preview for scheduled postsCORRECTION
Imagine my horror, when from the published successfully link pair, I click “view your post” and it returns a “Nothing Found” error for the post content, but header, footer, and sidebar is <s>not</s> there.
i.e. – everything was there except the post content

In reply to: [Plugin: eShop] Wish ListFair call on Google – I really begrudge the enforced SSL expense and coding terrors.
For most of the others I mentioned, you might be able to rework the module plug-ins from osCommerce – would save a lot of API research.
Apologies that I’d overlooked the cash/cheque option – didn’t notice I’d left it off when doing the test config … any chance it could be moved to the top of the gateways list seeing it uses so few displayed lines? Would make it harder to overlook then.

In reply to: [Plugin: WP-CMS Post Control] WP-CMS-Post-ControlIf I had a wish for this plugin, it would be to have the ability to show an excerpt in the Manage Posts – drafts part of the posts manager.
I use WP-O-Matic a lot to drag in news feeds to the draft posts list, then blog about that news, but with sometimes hundreds of new drafts per day, being able to see an excerpt while “weeding” the drafts would make life unbelievably easier.
I know I could manually hack it myself, but I don’t like hacking core files because of the high probability of an overwrite at next upgrade (which are becoming more and more frequent) therefore having it in a plugin would be fantastic.

And a way to auto-delete fed posts over a certain age

In reply to: [Plugin: eShop] Wish ListFurther payment options would be useful – I’m primarily an ecommerce bod rather than a blogger, and I know that customers do like to see choice of payment methods.
Just as examples, popular PayPal alternatives include –
Google Checkout
MoneyBookersAmazon Payments will probably seriously eat into PayPal territory by year end too.
Minor Payment providers with loyal followings include –
AlertPay
NoChex
PayMate
ProPayThere also needs to be a “pay by post” function for non-download items – i.e. cheque or postal/money order by post (it’s still a highly popular payment method … despite what eBay would have people believe). This only needs to be a screen display of payee and address, also sent by email with order details and instructions to print a copy to send with the payment (you would be really surprised at how many people send a payment with no order details or customer address).
Another common payment method via which my primary ecommerce site receives over 30% of payments, is payment by bank transfer / counter deposit / online banking transfer etc. This option only really requires a payment details email output, echoed to screen for people swapping between the purchase window and their online banking window. It is essential to provide an order reference code or number to be input with the bank payment.

A further wish list item would be a sidebar widget with randomised display of what’s in the eshop – just to draw attention to it’s existence.
—————————
Excellent addition to WordPress though – I’m still getting to grips with using it, and will no doubt love it once I’m familiar with all its bits and pieces.

In reply to: How to use RSS Feeds as Posts???I’m using wp-o-matic on a number of sites – very slick – could do with the option to retrieve full posts instead of just summary/extract, but it does the job for me.
wp-o-matic is available in the mods library

In reply to: Ad Rotator ErrorCan’t help you with the errors but you might find that moving your ads codes to somewhere like the free hosted service at https://www.openx.com will remove all your problems
OpenX is also available in downloadable form for installing on your own server and creating your own ad server (for self use or as a commercial service) – I’m migrating all our sites to it because we then have one central set of ad code, and can switch advertisers on and off centrally as they drop or switch agencies.

Live Help at the hosts just fixed this –
Quote – “I have just check the error logs and found that the issue with mod security hence uploaded file .htaccess under your eye/wp-admin which resolved such issue “
Hope it helps others
GazNope 754 doesn’t work, nor does 755 or 777
Time to contact the hosts I think
JD – OK thanks – the server is a hosted php5.something + mySQL 4.something
they upgraded the php last week so it’s possible the mod_security got wiped or modded or something – this particular blog is on a different server to any of the others and I haven’t edited a post in the last fortnight before today’s attempt after the upgrade.wp-admin/post.php is currently 644. I’ll bump it 755 and give it a go, then contact the hosts if no joy
