From what I gathered from your post, it looks like you just want to have a clean WP install, right?

I would just blow it out (delete the files) via FTP or host control panel and do a complete reinstall from scratch.

There are several options when you upload your pics. First, you can choose to load it in at various sizes. Then you have the option of fine tuning further by choosing a percent scale to reduce the size visually.

If you just need a web version of the photo, you can use almost any graphic tool to save as a smaller size also.

You wrote that you wanted to build a site “like this one”. That means you could build a site to compare types of dogs, toothpaste, etc.

That’s strange. You get that for all WP sites or just some?

I’m guessing flagged by Akismet. Are you leaving comments and they’re just not showing up afterwards? Were there links in your comments?

I would definitely stick with the latest version. Even if the plugins didn’t work perfectly, you could simply disable them and find an alternative. The security risks are simply not worth taking by using an older version.

Also, you stated that you think some of those plugins definitely didn’t work. Which do you mean specifically?

Just curious, what kind of site are you planning on building with that technology?

Have you looked at themes other than the ones here? There are many themes that are not blog-based or one-pagers. Some are premium and may cost you a few bucks but they can provide you a framework. Feel free to reach out and I’ll provide you with some free sources.

Honestly, blogs get scraped all the time. You can deter these content thieves a little by including backlinks to your site (or deep links to other pages). That way, they either will have to do some work to remove those links or deal with giving you juice from their sites.

If you want to report the scrapers, go to whois and contact their host provider. Scraping violates every hosting company’s TOS.

One thing you might want to do is just include excerpts on your home page. Folks typically only want to see headlines (or a few lines) so the intense scrolling doesn’t have to happen to see all the recipes.

Agreed! Looks like total spam. Just curious though, how many total comments do you have? If you only have four and all of them are aggressive like these, that does seem strange.

I, too, am using GoDaddy (and have been happy for many years now). You should be able to call them and have them walk through this with you. I’ve had nothing but good experiences with their CSRs. Remember, you pay them for this support.

There are significant differences in functionality and more importantly, as mentioned, security.

You could leave your site much more vulnerable if you don’t upgrade to the latest.
