Akismet should weed out an overwhelming majority of your spam.

IMO, CAPTCHA is fine for registering but if you use it for commenting, you’ll lose many people.

If you already have a gravatar, you can simply add the email address you use for this forum to your other one.

Your best bet is to post this either at https://jobs.wordpress.net/ or a freelancer board.

How did you do the restore? Your hosting provider should have a daily backup so you may be able to recover your old files. Even if the site doesn’t work, you can still grab the files you need and use them later once you get your site up and running the way you want.

Your host provider should be able to walk you through step-by-step. You should give them a call since you pay them every month for support whether you use it or not.

WP and SP are different animals. Although WP can be used as an internal tool, it’s strength is really being an external facing product.

SP, on the other hand, is primarily an internal tool, one with with named users, permissions, groups, file structures, and document sharing.

They are both strong tools used for very different purposes.

The best thing to do early on is add the all-in-one or platinum plugin. As you use that, you’ll be setting a nice foundation. Moreover, I would consistently publish quality, unique content. That way, you’ll slowly improve your SERP organically.

Yes, there are other short term and long term SEO tactics but I would start there.

You can label the “blog” posts anything. So infrequent articles would simply be new pages within the site. Look at WP as a CMS.

Whether or not it’s original content is irrelevant how you would set the site up. However, I would ensure that the authors are credited.

But judging by the content on the site, it doesn’t look like too much work to mimic the design/content and get up and running on WP.

Joomla and Drupal generally provides more customization but are more complex. That said, many users don’t require such heavy lifting and WP would do just fine.

Define “better”. You are spot on when you say Joomla has a steeper learning curve. It does give you more customization but depending on how much functionality you really need. Either one would scale to 6000 just fine.
