    esmi, i hope you’re still around today because i re-uploaded wp-admin and -includes, and am still having the same problem.

    i’m not sure if this made sense, but i even thought it was my browser (chrome) so i DL’d firefox and still the same thing.

    any other suggestions?

    If I try that, will that effect my database or anything else?

    Do you think if i upgrade to 2.8.5 this will be resolved?

    It will only allow me to create parent pages. What i’m trying to do is make two pages under one of the parent pages.

    Thanks for the tips, esmi, but nothing has worked.

    I deactivated all plugins, and nothing changed. then I reset the plugins folder as you suggested, and still nothing.

    I read somewhere else if I switched to the default theme then back to mine, it would help. I tried this again while the plugins were deactivated and even in the default theme the parent description was static. the layout dropdown appeared, but that’s not what i need.

    any other suggestions?

    Called my hosting provider, and the issue is now resolved. Thanks for your input.

    Thanks, but I can’t log in to wp-admin in order to do that.

    I’ve deleted all plug-ins from my FTP site, and that still has not solved anything. I can try deleting all themes except the default and see if that helps.

    Any other thoughts?

    That was my first move, but when it didn’t do anything I restored it.

    I am experiencing something similar.

    My host is running PHP, and I’ve checked and triple checked my config file. This may be a lame question, but in the Read Me doc when it says “upload everything” what is that referring to?

    This is the message I received:
    ERROR: %s’), $error); ?>

    checked=”checked” />

    ‘.__(‘Already Installed’).’

    ‘.__(‘You appear to have already installed WordPress. To reinstall please clear your old database tables first.’).’
    ‘);} switch($step) { case 0: case 1: // in case people are directly linking to this display_header(); ?>

    error) ) wp_die($wpdb->error->get_error_message()); display_header(); // Fill in the data we gathered $weblog_title = isset($_POST[‘weblog_title’]) ? stripslashes($_POST[‘weblog_title’]) : ”; $admin_email = isset($_POST[‘admin_email’]) ? stripslashes($_POST[‘admin_email’]) : ”; $public = isset($_POST[‘blog_public’]) ? (int) $_POST[‘blog_public’] : 0; // check e-mail address $error = false; if (empty($admin_email)) { // TODO: poka-yoke display_setup_form( __(‘you must provide an e-mail address.’) ); $error = true; } else if (!is_email($admin_email)) { // TODO: poka-yoke display_setup_form( __(‘that isn’t a valid e-mail address. E-mail addresses look like: [email protected]’) ); $error = true; } if ( $error === false ) { $wpdb->show_errors(); $result = wp_install($weblog_title, ‘admin’, $admin_email, $public); extract($result, EXTR_SKIP); ?>
