There wasn’t a compatibility issue with woo 8.8.2 but with woo update manager.

No it’s not a marketing thing to buy the PRO version. It’s just prioritization.
We are almost done with HPOS support for the free version and you should expect this the next days

Yes this happens due to the inability of WooCommerce itself to recalculate things on pay-order endpoint.
Indeed this is handled in our PRO version https://woosmartcod.com/features/order-pay-page-with-extra-fees/
