I don’t see any filter now. I think you got it sorted.

It’s as per the theme design. If you want some customizations, you can get a child theme developed for this theme.

If you want to hide some functionality then you’ll have to create a child theme and if you don’t know how to develop it, you can either learn or hire a freelancer for the same.

You need to create a page and assign HOME PAGE template to it.
Then go to settings ==> Reading and select that page as FRONT PAGE.
And this will resolve all these issues.

https://kb.fruitthemes.com/gardenia-pro-documentation/ is a PRO version documentation but most of the things which I’ve explained here are also applicable for FREE version.
Check this and see if you setup the theme properly.

Setting up the home page is easy :
1. Create a page and assign “Home Page” template to it.
2. Go to Setting ==> reading and assign that page as FRONT PAGE.
That’s it.
