Unfortunately still striking out over here. I did “repair database” but it wasn’t clear that anything was improved because I’m still having this upload issue.

And I disabled all the plugins and switched to Twenty Seventeen theme again, but the problem exists even then.

I did receive a “timeout” error once while testing the upload, so I wonder if it’s something to do with the way my site is installed; I actually have 3 WP installs under 1 hosting account, each tied to subdomains. Could they be competing for resources or something?

The error log and uploading problem does not change.

A caveat, I did leave one plugin on during these tests which is Really Simple SSL – I wasn’t sure if I could safely turn that one on and off because it gave me a warning when I tried.

Interestingly I deactivated all plugins and switched to the WP 2017 theme and the problem persisted.

Thanks Steven! I am definitely getting errors in the log from my parent theme — and unfortunately it seems like the person who made it may have gone MIA and stopped maintaining it. The dangers of relying on a third party, I suppose.

If I disable plugins/themes to further troubleshoot, their settings are still saved, right?

I was able to place the whole code (shortcode, element with class) in the slider, and when I clicked on it, the page darkened but the video never loaded.

I tried many different popup plugins and 90% of them didn’t work, so it could be some kind of issue with luvslider. I’ve noticed other problems with it before.

I ended up solving my own problem. I was able to upload other files, so I thought maybe there was something wrong with that particular PDF. I duplicated it and renamed it, but wasn’t able to upload that. But then I opened it in Preview, and exported as a new PDF, and was able to upload that. Very weird, but glad it was no critical problem with my wordpress!

This is the site with the unaltered theme. Because this is a wordpress.com site and not an install on my own server, there are no options to change the font or css without upgrading to premium, which I will not do.

So I updated to the latest version of wordpress and the menu page still doesn’t show indents, but it does indicate which are “sub-items” and has options for changing the hierarchy and moving items up and down with links rather than dragging and dropping.

I looked at the plugins and I think deactivating them would cause problems with the site, so I am going to just leave the situation as it is now.

Sure. I just looked at the code and I saw that usually my main content is wrapped in a few divs, something like this:

Flipbook doesn’t wrap the content in the primary div:

As a result the layout lacks padding and the flipbook overlaps onto the header part. Also, the admin bar appears as an ugly white stripe at the top when I view the page and am logged in.

I made my theme myself, based on the underscores theme. I know this problem is really specific to my site, but maybe the plugin could get the code for a page from the page.php template instead of just using the code <div id="page" class="hfeed site">…

I added the following code to one of the stylesheets the theme used and was able to hide the header. I’m not sure if the code is specific to my site or if it’ll work for other people with the same problem. (I just found the selector for the header using the program CSSedit.)

Hm, okay. I don’t have an SEO plugin, but I switched to a couple other themes and the header is hidden in them. I guess I’ll see what I can do to hide the header in my own theme.

I’ve been working on the site locally, but I’ve uploaded it here. The host won’t let me log in and add links to the nav, but the finished site will have three links in the nav, the third one with .sub-menu drop down links. The drop downs seem to be messed up by the responsive code.

I managed to get the website nice looking on an ipod touch using a separate stylesheet for mobile devices. However the nav still doesn’t move out of bar form when you resize the window on a regular computer, and I suspect it might be messed up like that on the ipad too.
