I tried this. Gets a bit messy. Firefox doesn’t let you copy and paste so you need to copy the html which I don’t want the website owner to touch.

Then once you’ve copied and pasted, you need to assign the menu to the new page, and presumably trash the old page.

In something like Dreamweaver you just copy the page locally, edit it, then upload it to the server when you are ready.

If you know a simpler way then……

Do you mean simply cutting and pasting the content of a page?

More accurately, I want my client to be able to prepare new versions of some pages on a monthly basis.

I want him to be able to do this without affecting the current version.

And naturally, I want this to be as easy for him as possible.

Thanks ThorHammer. But could you clarify how you would identify a particular page’s content to go in a particular div? Does each page content have a post-id?

Might also consider Adeptris’ idea about using tables. That way the whole page contents can be seen in the editor at once. Seems to me that if you use loops, then there is no way to see how the final page will look until you view it on the website. I’m used to designing static sites in DW where you can see the full page as you design it

Thanks. I found that my theme (Magazine Basic) allows you to assign categories to a menu, so that when you select the menu item you get the posts for that category.

This works, except that the front page layout (that attracted me to the theme) isn’t used. Will have to find a way to control the layout of the posts, and to ensure that the posts are displayed in the order I want. Which is kind of where I started!!

Thanks. I’m using Magazine Basic. I tried what you suggested – and created menus based on each of the categories. So now I have three menu items, each displaying posts for it’s own category.

So far so good.

Trouble is, that the page layout that came with Magazine Basic hasn’t been applied to any of the pages. I’m stuck with a simple listing of the posts. Obviously the reason for using a particular theme is to make use of the theme layout.

Any ideas how to correct this?

Would this still work for pages? As I understand it, page content can’t be associated with categories (not sure about tags)? So, how you retrieve the content of a particular page?

If you have any example code where this works for pages, I’d appreciate seeing it.

It was a permissions error. I set the permissions for wp-content to 777 and it worked.
