For now, I’ve implemented this: https://gist.github.com/Garconis/d7125787022eb325426706ac2d19cc5d
And then changed the domain from
example.com
to the domain of our in-house admin users. That way, outside admin users won’t be able to see it.Though, I’m still hoping for the ability to just remove the “Description” part of the AIOSEO Details column. That way we can show the SEO Title to all users, like we’ve done in the past…

In reply to: [Head, Footer and Post Injections] Removing plugin DB entriesHello, do you have database fields that remain after removing your plugin?
I don’t think AIOSEO does it through Google Tag Manager. It’s all built-in to their plugin. They may have some sort of custom script in their plugin that detects outbound links and file types, and then logs those clicks to Analytics as Events when they are detected and clicked.
I would request that you take a look at how it’s done (many other Analytics plugins also do it, including MonsterInsights).
Check out this screenshot from a site with AIOSEO and link tracking: https://i.imgur.com/c4ZdsJO.png
They seem to be adding a new file with that functionality. Here is that file:
https://www.aprilthegiraffe.com/wp-content/plugins/all-in-one-seo-pack/public/js/vendor/autotrack.jsI like the simplicity of your plugin, but it would be a nice feature to have an option of enabling outbound/external link tracking. Even if it were a Pro feature (another selling point that I’d be happy to upgrade for).
Is there at least a filter to remove that column for now, so I can remove it for certain users/roles?
Sort of like that. But a lot of plugins (check your competition) offer this functionality built in to their plugins. It automatically tracks outbound links and file downloads (e.g., pdf, zip, ppt, etc.)… and adds them as Events within Google Analytics.
Most SEO plugins don’t actually have an area for UA code. Yoast doesn’t either. This was a big reason we kept using AIOSEO, since it avoided the need for another plugin.
If it already had a UA code in there, it should still be there. But yes, they are no longer supporting it for new installs (that didn’t previously have the UA code in the settings). Doesn’t make senses though. See this comment:

Is there an option/filter to turn this off, if desired?
I realize it’s not “supported”, but it’s still included in v4 releases, as a sort of “grandfathered” feature for users who were using it in v3. Therefore it still exists in v4. I realize you won’t be maintaining it or developing it further, but the fact of the matter is it’s still in v4 and will be for all future releases (otherwise it would break many user’s websites if/when they ever updated the plugin).
Therefore, since the actual feature is within v4, why not just show it to new installs too?
How long will you be supporting GA in AIOSEO going forward. Assuming you never strip it out (and therefore break tons of sites), why not just make it visible for new sites to use too?
@wpsmort or @arnaudbroes can we get a response here? Your “new” documentation still shows the field as an option to add UA code: https://i.imgur.com/GpYIEo5.png
Your changelog mentions nothing about stripping this functionality.
It’s clearly still there for sites that were already making use of the UA code and tracking settings. So why isn’t it still there for new installs?

In reply to: [Manage Notification E-mails] How do conflicting settings work?OK, just to confirm, if we already had the Settings > Discussion options turned off (so they don’t send the emails) — if we then installed your plugin and didn’t also turn those emails off within your plugin settings, we would then receive emails (since your plugin overrides the default WP settings)?

In reply to: [Rank Math SEO – AI SEO Tools to Dominate SEO Rankings] Manually add UA code?@antonio_09 — yes, I understand how/where to add typical scripts such as Google Analytics code. But it would be more user-friendly if the plugin allowed for manual entry of the UA ID itself. In addition, it would then be able to take advantage of the plugin’s other Analytics options such as file download event tracking, and external/outbound link event tracking.

In reply to: [Rank Math SEO – AI SEO Tools to Dominate SEO Rankings] Manually add UA code?Yes, it would be ideal to manually add UA code when we’re not able to connect an account to a client’s Google Account.
Being able to manually add the UA code and still have some functionality such as outbound tracking, etc. would be ideal.
I don’t care about the Dashboard aspect of it.
