It sounds like you are not uploading the Twenty Eleven theme correctly. You must upload the entire twentyeleven theme folder to wp-content/themes.

    I did …

I have, however, got the blog page back, by undoing this:

I think I’m doing it wrong. I named the index.php file in the parent theme index-old.php

There is definitely a stylesheet (style.css) in the TwentyEleven folder as well, so I don’t know why it’s telling me it’s missing. Shouldn’t it be recognising/looking for the TwentyElevenChildTheme style.css file instead though? Do I need to do anything to make it do that?

Again, sorry – I really will go now…will check in tomorrow.

Thanks a million again for all your help so far. You have the patience of a saint! ??

Sorry to be a pain…I’ve also noticed that whilst most of the site is visible, there is no content showing when I click on the ‘Blog’ tab.

I’ve checked and it’s all set up to have a static home page and show posts under the ‘Blog’ page, as it was before. My posts are still there (I can see them in wp-admin) but they are not visible on the site.

I really must do other bits of work now and then go to bed, but I’ll check in again tomorrow. Hope you’ve not got fed up of me and can continue to help. You’ve been an absolute saviour so far. Thank you again! :)))

I’ve just found this under Appearance: Editor

    Twenty Eleven: Stylesheet (style.css)

This theme is broken. Template is missing.

Could this have something to do with the problems I’m having getting it back to the way it looked before?

    Thread Starter FredRoberts

    (@fredroberts)

That’s OK. I think your earlier problems may have been caused by the empty parent theme folder. A child can’t exist without a fully populated parent theme. Try re-installing the child theme now and see if it works.

I think I’m doing it wrong. I named the index.php file in the parent theme index-old.php and then renamed the TwentyElevenChildTheme-old back to TwentyElevenChildTheme, but nothing’s changed. (but the site’s still there at least)

Widgets are stored on a per-theme basis. And a child theme still classes as a theme in its own right. so all of your widget settings will have been stored against your previous child theme. Do you still have a copy of that child theme?

Sorry – my site is a business site, so I used the child theme originally to set it up so that I’d have my logo instead of the title text.
Then, as my header image, I’d chosen

Random: Show a different image on each page.

using uploaded photos…images of my products.

The child theme only has 3 files for some reason??

    header.php
    index.php
    style.css

Do you still have a copy of that child theme?

    Yes, I have…that sounds promising!

    (@fredroberts)

You don’t need a child theme to upload custom header images.

I don’t? It’s been a while since I set it up – I think I wanted to get rid of the standard font etc that showed the site name and have an image as a logo/site name instead…I’m guessing that’s why I went to all the hassle of installing a child theme, but if I can do it without, then even better…how?

Ah – ok – I’ve now worked out what I did when I first set it up.

I wanted the custom header image in the standard twentyeleven theme to be a randomly rotating series of photos (product photos) at the top of each page. So I used that functionality, but it left me with the standard twentyeleven site name above the header image, which looked a bit ‘bleurgh’. So I created a child theme to allow me to use an image of my choosing (i.e. logo) instead.

For now, I’ve just put the logo file in as my custom header image, because I really do need to go to bed, but I’ll have to figure out what to do about the site title & how to get around the product images thing. If I can avoid having a child theme, it’ll be one less headache!

Oh, and need to remember what widgets I had in the side bar and put them all back *groan*.

Still, at least I have my site back! YAY!!! Thank you again for all your help!! :))))

Aarrrggghh as well as the header image and photos underneath, I also don’t have any of the sidebar stuff anymore. All my widgets are gone ??

Any further suggestions gratefully received. I’m hugely grateful that I have my site back, at least. It may not look perfect and it may take me a long time to get it back to how I wanted it to look, but at least I have content on the web again! :))) Thank you.

I’ll be grateful for any further help…though please don’t think me rude if I ignore replies tonight. It’s 11pm and I still have tons of other work to do and need to try and get a few hours’ sleep as well. I will come back to this asap though.

    Thanks again.

    (@fredroberts)

    Uh? How? Why?

    No idea ??

I’ve now re-uploaded a fresh version of twentyeleven and my site is back! :))))) Thank you!

Well, it’s back, except that I don’t have the beautiful header images I had before (I have no header images at all)…I think that’s why I’d installed the child theme. Would the solution be to delete the old child theme and create a new one with the customisations I originally had?

    Thread Starter FredRoberts

    (@fredroberts)

I didn’t move the folder for the child theme, just it’s contents, because the parent theme folder was empty.

I’ll re-upload Twenty Eleven after I’ve moved the contents back to the child folder…fingers crossed.

    Hi Esmi

Before I saw your latest reply, I moved the contents of the TwentyElevenChildTheme(old) to the TwentyEleven theme folder. I now have my menu items & page headers back (except without the images, which were part of the child theme, I think), but still no content.

If I re-upload a fresh copy of the Twenty Eleven folder to wp-content/themes, will this affect my content (which is still there in wp-admin but not visible on the site)?

Thanks for your continued help ??

    Thread Starter FredRoberts

    (@fredroberts)

Thanks Esmi & Jan…I’ve renamed the wp-content/themes/TwentyElevenChildTheme folder to wp-content/themes/TwentyElevenChildTheme-old but my site is still not re-appearing ??

Can you think of anything else I can try?

I found a cgierror.log file in my /logs folder and it says this:

PHP Fatal error: Cannot redeclare twentyeleven_excerpt_length() (previously declared in /content/Hosting/c/i/cinisuppli.co.uk/web/wp-content/themes/TwentyElevenChildTheme/functions.php:318) in /content/Hosting/c/i/cinisuppli.co.uk/web/wp-content/themes/twentyeleven/functions.php on line 320

PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function twentyeleven_content_nav() in /content/Hosting/c/i/cinisuppli.co.uk/web/wp-content/themes/TwentyElevenChildTheme/index.php on line 22

[ Moderated, redundant lines rmeoved. ]

Does that have anything to do with my disappearing content and, if so, what do I need to do?

    Hope someone can help ??
