Which folder did you set to 777? public_html or wp_content or – plugins?

    Thanks Joe

When you say you erased them I assume you mean you deleted the files. Is that correct?
I am using CPanel. Can you help me to understand what it means to “assign the files to nobody?” and can I change that via cpanel?
btw, My hosting company tek support guy said something about setting public_html permissions to 770. Is that what he was referring to? Is that what you are reccommending?
    again, many thanks.

I just did some reading on NextGen. I believe I’ll have to also load NextGen Custom Fields to get the description text to show – and I’m sure that will take me a day or so to investigate. But would you know how to get the “description text” the text you fill in when you upload the image – how would you get that text to show in a regular WP gallery?

    Or – the image.php file?

I’ll set something up using the NextGen and send a link shortly. But it’s funny, as for the native WP gallery, I kept thinking that the description was a hook/ functions / core theme issue (not like i really know enough about that – I’m just at the edge of beginning to understand. CSS? hmmm. I never thought of that. Any chance you’s share some insight – how could it be a CSS issue?

BTW, those were 2 fabulous posts about using the gallery. Do you know how to get the description field to show beneath the image? Yikes! questions -R- Us! I hope you do not regret answering my first question, only to get hit with 2 more !LOL! I promise this is the last one!

    Esmi,
You ARE AN ANGEL!!! If I may, I’d like to ask one more question(?) When setting up a folder for a gallery like NextGen, are you being asked to set the permissions to the wp-upload folder – the newly created “gallery” folder within it – or both? I had trouble figuring that out from the way the error message was worded.

And many, many thanks to you!

I was just about to change my permalinks to the page structure SexyEnce did but when I read PhBis’s post – am i understanding that – when you upgrade WP you get the original/default structure back? Yikes! that’s scary! does anyone know if that is true?

Can anyone direct me to help using tinymce for tables? They work fine when you set them up, but going and changing them seems confusing. even if it shows on the edit screen that the change was made, the changes don’t show up on the site page when you refresh it. Many thanks in advance!

I am trying to break the post headline after a colon.

    Perpetrators Still Perpetrating

Could you tell me how to accomplish this?
    Many thanks!

I hope it’s okay to piggyback a question here.
Sometimes if I create a blog for someone with very simple level skills, they look at the Dashboard for the first time and panic. It would be great to only present them with the tools they need. For instance, New post, edit post, delete post.
That would keep them safe from doing harm to things they don’t know how to use, but go experiment with. Limiting access and visibility of Dashboard functions would also eliminate the sometimes difficult situation, where they want you to spend time teaching them far more about WP than you want to. Yes, I guide them to the best books and resources, but as they say, “you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink.” – So, ability to limit what the Dashboard does and does not display would be an awesomely useful feature or plug in. is this in any way possible?
Thanks so much for your help.

    Dear Michael,
I almost fainted when I read your reply. Thank you so much! I have never had a question answered here before, so I didn’t come back to look after the first few days. I look forward to the day I know enough about WP that I can pass on your generosity by helping someone out here in the form by answering a question. Your incredibly generous and thoughtful reply brings me closer to that goal. Okay. So, now I am off to print out your answer and do what you have advised. I have been avoiding changing the theme – and the Permalink structure! I am in absolute terror that my blog will explode.
    Again, truckloads of gratitude.

Many thanks you, Otto 42, for your explanation. It was very informative to me… as I am new to wordpress. Is there anywhere i could read a step by step about how to add a tag to a post? Something suitable to a real beginner? Again, thankyou for your generosity. That was a lot of typing!!!
    Best & thanks,
    Fredrix

I had this issue all last week. I contacted my host / liquid web and it turned out to be a problem on their end. I’m on a vps and one of my vps mates was being a hog. I was told that the tek guy recompiled my apache server and lo and behold it was fixed. I have no idea what it means but when i saw your post and thought of how frustrating that week was, being unable to access the admin page of any of my blogs, i just thought i woould share my solution with you. best of luck.
