1. I have put the text in place but it’s not visible or I am not seeing it
2. if I re-generate the thumbnails are the pictures overall in the post and pages unaffected – as that’s what I fear…

Done that still goes back to posts page (but yes I could be as it’s on a tester domain before going live… Which I am kind of ready to do if it wasn’t for the CSS );

I’ve used the Jetpack custom CSS Alexander – I don’t have an option to enable Custom CSS in any of the Theme sections.

Also I have selected a static page for a welcome page but it keeps bringing up posts

I have no active plugin and I don’t think I have embedded template file (which template file do you mean…)
