In reply to: Basic Plugin QuestionThanks! That did it. That last parameter when you call add_filter (the number of arguments) wasn’t shown on the wiki pages I was using… and it of course makes all the difference ??
I’m going to fix/update the wiki pages when I go back.

In reply to: Basic Plugin QuestionThis gives an error looking for the second argument for toUpperBlogDescription…
I’m not sure if this code actually is doing what I am wanting to do, which is change the specific call to bloginfo(‘description’) rather than every instance of the bloginfo() function (which is built-in to PHP)

In reply to: Firewall blocking pingomatic ping?I’m not yelling– sorry if it seemed that way. I maintain about 30 WP sites, I don’t think to change the link every time. I’m completely unsure how looking at the site from the outside will help with anything in this case (which afflicts multiple wp installations on this server), but here you go:
https://locus.dist-ed.uaf.edu/cde/blog/
That’s one of the sites having the problem on this server.
Besides my etiquette, for which I apologize, does anyone have any ideas what could cause this?Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Firewall blocking pingomatic ping? The post with 23 links is not even the SITE I am talking about! This is a site on a University server. Everything else works, including plenty of port 80 traffic. The posts in question (since I have been testing) have NO LINKS IN THEM.
Yes, there is a University and a machine firewall in place.
If I remove pingomatic.com, the posting time for even a 2 word, no link test post goes from 90 seconds or so to two seconds.

In reply to: Firewall blocking pingomatic ping?I should add that this problem has persisted for more than a week now, so I don’t *think* it’s a problem at their end…

In reply to: Firewall blocking pingomatic ping?If I delete https://rpc.pingomatic.com/ from the Write tab, then the posts are almost isntantaneous. I have already turned off all the other pingiing options. The posts have no links at all!! I am running 1.5.1.3

In reply to: Stuck after writing a post! :(Try disabling pinging, it could be getting hung trying to ping URLs or something.

In reply to: my Faked Folders problemI decided to go a different route because I wanted my “static” pages to be searchable. So I create categories for these pages, which I exclude from the category listing (and RSS) and then each static page is actually a link to that otherwise hidden category… this way I can edit the content by editing the post(s) that make up the category and the content remains searchable.

In reply to: Static PagesTechGnome– I hope I didn’t sound ungrateful for your help– I was and am! It just so happens that at the moment I need the content searchable. Thanks again for your advice!

In reply to: WYSI-WordPress HackI have a strange problem with using this hack… if I put in some text, then a list, then some text again, the text after the list is not formatted properly. From viewing the source it looks like the first instances of text get put inside paragraph tags, while the text after a list does not… if I add another bit of text, it comes back to normal, as seen here:

In reply to: Static PagesAh, I didn’t see that– I was assuming that the include menu file wouldn’t be updated by WordPress.
However, it looks like the “fake folders” plugin might do what I need. I’m going to check it out more and I’ll let you know.
Having a search of the other pages is not a drawback or an inconvenience for me– it is an absolute requirement. I’m *not* going to give user’s two search engines to look for content!Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Static PagesThe other disadvantage of method #1 is that it makes a static copy of the menu, which will have to be updated every time this information changes. The good thing about Txp sections is that they are in every way a part of the site and integrated so that the only updates you have to make manually are to the content. Thanks for the pointers, though.

In reply to: Static PagesThanks. Wiki plug pages aren’t included in the WP Search, as far as I can tell by testing on the site, so that’s useless to me.
The first suggestion follows along the lines of what I am already working on, I think, but I can’t get the sample pages to see them and can’t tell if they are included in the search.
But there has to be a simpler way– if someone hasn’t written a plugin for this kind of need, I guess I’ll probably do so.
