In reply to: WP-CYCLE IE8 PNG fix? Here is another resource:
https://erikvandeven.com/jquery/how-to-use-wp-cycle/+1 for the link above. I was having the same transparency issue in IE8, and that fixed it for me!

In reply to: Error Establishing a Database Connection (Aplus.net)Your new host will probably have an offer to move your site from your old host, so I’d go that route. If you’re not technically minded, you don’t want to do it yourself.

In reply to: inserting imageHave you tried reverting to a default theme like Twenty Eleven and disabling all you widgets. If your problem goes away as a result, then you know one of those is causing the problem.

In reply to: Error Establishing a Database Connection (Aplus.net)Those links return a 403 error for me, so not sure what I am to see. As to the non-WP sites, I’d move anyway. There’s lot’s of great hosts out there, so why stick with one that screws up your database regularly.

In reply to: How can I back up my databaseBackup Buddy (3rd party) and VaultPress (Automattic) are two plugins/services that come to mind, but neither are free. Good backup is worth the expense, IMHO

In reply to: How can I back up my databaseYes, the downloaded database can be viewed in any text editor, and contains all the data of your site. Be sure to set up your plugin for automatic backup so you always have an up-to-date copy to restore from.
And know that this is data only. It does not include your images, plugins, themes, and other files that WordPress uses, just the database.

In reply to: Unable to add images on Mac, 3.2.1Have you done anything that you can think of (recently) to modify the core files? Other possibility is that you made a move recently, and one of the files got corrupted in that process.
Either way, the simplest fix I can think of is to download a fresh copy of WordPress, and upload it to your server via FTP, overwriting the core files that exist on your server, and are presumably corrupted. Be sure that you DO NOT overwrite the following:
- wp-config.php
- wp-content
Also, do yourself a favor, and create a full backup of your site’s files and database from within your hosting control panel before you touch anything. If something goes amiss, you’ll be glad you did!

In reply to: Unable to add images on Mac, 3.2.1Still, it would be good to find a PC you can check on quickly, just to eliminate that variable.
Otherwise, only easy thing I can think of is to test on a clean install of WordPress, which would eliminate the possibility of problems inside of core. ::scratches head::

In reply to: Homepage questionWell, for sure the link in your main navigation points to a page (other than the blog) because it shows this address: https://adventuresofjohn.com/?page_id=1 plus the tab says HOMEPAGE which is not something you’d get with WordPress out-of-the-box.
Did you create a custom menu so that you could create your own tab named HOMEPAGE? If so, try deselecting the custom menu (reverting to the default manu system) and see if that gets you a proper “Home” button that points to the blog.

In reply to: Unable to add images on Mac, 3.2.1I’d recommend deactivating all your plugins next, to see if one of them is causing the issue. If that clears it up, then you can reactivate them one at a time until you find the offending plugin. Tedious, but the best approach.
If deactivating plugins doesn’t clear it up, then next I’d find a friend with a PC who will let you log in to WP on their machine, to see if you have the same problem on the PC side. Should just take a few minutes for you to test if it’s a Mac-only issue.

In reply to: Homepage questionI think lerizzle has it here.
Check your Settings>Reading, and make sure that Front page displays: Your latest posts is checked.
This is the default setting for WordPress, and it automatically sets the home page (called Front page) to display the blog. If you’ve changed it in any way to specify another page as “Home” then you will not see blog posts, just a blank page.

In reply to: Best Way To Make Blog Entries Private?Set the pages to Private, and then have your users register to your site as a Subscriber (or create a new user in the dashboard for each person, and set their role to Subscriber)
Private posts are visible to registered users of your site only, public visitors can only see the post title.
Cheers
