I found some people had a similar, albeit not identical, issue some time ago, and it had something to do with notifications so I gave it a try. If anyone needs it, you can deactivate them from this page: [yoursite.com]/wp-admin/admin.php?page=jetpack_modules (apparently you can’t normally toggle them from your regular dashboard). I can live without notifications but it’s still a very puzzling bug.

In reply to: Can’t type letter ‘n’…The Template kits were from Spectra, that I had deactivated with no useful result. I might try changing theme when I have some time to devote to it, although customising the one I have took a bit of work and I am not so willing to do everything from scratch if I am not sure it helps.
