    REPLYING TO MYSELF–FAILURE FIXED

I asked my Sure Support people at the host and they said

“We checked your WordPress installation. In this particular case, the “BackWPup” WordPress plug-in seems to be causing the issue. You should rename the “backwpup” folder storing this plugin’s files (to “backwpup2” for example) in the /wp-content/plugins directory. This will basically disable the “BackWPup” allowing you to log inside the WordPress Administrative back end (your website will start working as well).”

I did this and they are correct. Site works and I seem to have full access to back end.

I wonder if there was some mention of this on the UPGRADE page that I did not see, or if there is NO mention of it, or any of the other problems, on the upgrade page.

Actually, turns out easier than that. The Widgets include the Pages Widget, which has in it and edit function to suppress any page by entering its Page ID. When listed in the PAGES widget on each page, only the Issue is displayed. When clicked, the brings you to a page with the actually sub-pages (stories, poems, art, essays, etc).

Now I only have to get rid of the “this page contains the following sub pages) on the main issue page and I’m good to go.

    Well, close to it, anyway.

jennikitten– you’re right that once “published” there’s not much future editing to do per page. The reason Frontpage is used at all is that the current 800 page site was done in FP and certain header adn footer elements are, I believe, products of FP. I do not want to have to fix 800 pages of stories and poems to attach new headers and footers. So I thought I’d just leave them as they are, access through a single “Archive” page that I already have, and then in the furture go with WP.

Each issue is 10-20 pieces, each a page (shorter for poems and short shorts, longer for full stories). Maybe I need to read more about Categories.

My though was that the front page would be news and announcements (we run some contests, sell back issues, etc.) and then One link each for each “Issue.” So far, having done something like this with Pages and sub-pages, the sub-pages always appear in the Pages widget/list, so after a year I will end up with between 40 and 80 stories and poems listed in the Pages widget, adn this seems unworkable.

front page. Read up on query_posts and you’ll be

Looked at this and got instantly lost. Will try gain. But am committed to this course, so am going to try to move the site that I made here
https://www.mississippireview.wordpress.com to my own url https://www.mississippireview.com soon, if I can figure out how that’s done.

I’m not considering other alternatives. have done this in Frontpage and before that various other WYSIWYG editors, and before that I can’t remember.

Are there other alternatives to consider?

I had assumes I could use categories for Volumes, and have Issues beneath categories, but I can’t figure how to make something posted ONLY to the category and not to main page.

I was starting to do a mock up here https://tc4w.wordpress.com/ before moving (eventually) to actual site.
