In reply to: [Comments - wpDiscuz] Line breaks etc. not handled properlyAwesome! Keep up the great work!
Ok, got it! Sometimes, it’s just too simple to figure it out straight away. ??
Thanks!
@diego @quanto I agree that invoicing is not top priority right now, and I agree that this is challenging. BUT it is required by law and I think it’s doable.
Here is the Guide to the VAT mini One Stop Shop released by the EU Commission: https://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/resources/documents/taxation/vat/how_vat_works/telecom/one-stop-shop-guidelines_en.pdf
On page 24, it says:
“Invoicing
In relation to invoices, the rules of the Member State of consumption apply. Therefore taxable persons will need to ensure that they are aware of the relevant rules in Member States where they make supplies to consumers. Information regarding Member States’ rules on invoicing will also be made available on the Commission website.”@diego The plugins are not free. I bought the premium version of David’s plugin yesterday. ??
The “simple” way of implementing invoicing is indeed to have 28 templates (one for each country) and choose the right one case-by-case, just like the tax rate is chosen. The main work is to create the templates and to keep them up-to-date with the changing national regulations. But technically, this should be fairly simple. Correct me if I am wrong here.
@david @deigo I understand your approach and the difficulty in implementing invoicing. As I wrote, it’s probably the bigger nightmare as there are not only different rates to consider, but totally different regulations in each country.
I found these two links about the topic that make it a bit more accessible:
https://www.taxamo.com/moss-invoicing-revealed/
https://www.taxamo.com/vat-on-eservices-invoicing/From what I read, invoicing needs to be tightly integrated with the VAT solution as it involves different layouts per country and in some cases regulations concerning displayed currencies. I imagine that you need an invoicing template table similar to the tax rate table in WooCommerce to choose the right template per country automatically.
I was looking for examples, but could not find any. As @gupa says, it would take one big part out of the equation: turning the data into a report.
This would certainly be great value added to the plugin. But it’s not essential right now. I agree.
Ok, I have opened a ticket.

In reply to: [European VAT Compliance Assistant for WooCommerce] Problem with GeoIP plugin@david I am referring to the “Update Now” button in the GeoIP Detection screen (Tools > GeoIP Detection)
I have just tested it again three times, and I received three different results in that order when I pushed the button:
“Connection reset by peer”
“Forbidden”
“Updated successfully”The third result answers the question: Network seems to be working.
It appears that something else is causing sporadic problems. Maybe the server that’s being queried. Hard to diagnose, I guess. I will keep an eye on it.

In reply to: [European VAT Compliance Assistant for WooCommerce] Problem with GeoIP plugin@david I can do a test GeoIP lookup from the settings page. I can populate the VAT table with your plugin, and the query for the exchange rate in your plugin seems to work.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I think that indicates that external connections are possible from my server. Right?

In reply to: [European VAT Compliance Assistant for WooCommerce] Problem with GeoIP pluginI have the same problem (Update failed. Forbidden).
But uploading manually is only a temporary solution as the DB needs to be updated regularly. Otherwise, you risk that a growing number of your customers are falsely located. And that will become a problem one way or the other.
Are there any hints on how to resolve this issue permanently?
Hi Matt,
I don’t know if it’s the RAM. The error message indicates that it’s a limitation of the mail server. But maybe that comes down to the admins configuring it for low RAM.
I am thinking about upgrading anyway. So maybe this is a good reason to do so.
Cheers and take care!
Ok, here’s what I found out myself: I now have well over 1500 subscribers and that seems to overwhelm the mailing system of my provider. I have resctricted the number of recipients per mail to 500, and now it seems to work.
Maybe that helps people with the same problem!
