The logo even isn’t shown in the WP customizer section (where you set the site logo) anymore!

I wasn’t actually able to replicate this though. I could see the logo image inside the Customizer when I was editing either homepage or another page. Are there any specific steps that I should follow? Please advise!

Aaaah, I just overlooked that button. Well, the button is labelled “X” which is the WordPress standard for dismissing a message … I should have hovered the mouse over that.

I would prefer this button to have a more “telling” tag-line, like “Stop Process” instead of “x” …

I performed this a second time, this time I unchecked the permission checkboxes.

Well, same result. all files/dirs are chowned/chmoded to apache/admin. Website seems to basically work, although only with a lot of additional work.

A number of issues:

a) The original site was installed in a subdirectory. You should explicitely mention that Duplicator does not replicate the subdirectory: you have to create it manually and put the installer files in this subdirectory.

b) consequently, Duplicator does not include the .htaccess/index.php in the root directory, which are required if you run WP in a subdirectory and won’t show the subdir in the URL. You have to create them manually.

c) regarding b): the original setting was:

WP ADRESS (URL): https://www.abc.de/subdir
WP SITE (URL): https://www.abc.de

Duplicator changed this to

WP ADRESS (URL): https://www.abc.de/subdir
WP SITE (URL): https://www.abc.de/subdir

… which adds to the confusion about what has been changed where and how.

d) In wp-config.php, Duplicator DOES NOT replace/disable any FTP settings! Now this is a big issue, since for WP autoupdate, it gives the wrong credentials and the wrong site so it will update the original site!
You should explicitely mention this in the docs.

e) You can’t even manually change the Theme’s STYLE.CSS or FUNCTIONS.PHP per FTP since it is owned by apache. So I again have to log in as ROOT and change the ownership. :-((

Overall, I have mixed feelings since I have no idea if this installation works as intended.
Given the time I need to manually create/correct files and directories, Duplicator may work to duplicate larger installations, but if you just want to replicate a basic installation you are faster with a manual install. And you can be sure everything is installed/works as intended.

Although I did not dare to delete the plugin – because of the warning message that “all corresponding data will be lost (*)” despite the fact that I had “Drop MySQL tables on uninstall” UNCHECKED – simply deactivating the plugin did the trick.

Analyzing the generated code reveals that it tries to load the preview image from the

/wp-content/plugins/wp-video-embed-privacy-master/preview/yt/

directory. After install, this directory does not exist …

preview.php should add that directory, but somehow it fails.

I added it manually and set it to 666, but it still does not work :-((

Well, of course, this is no real solution.

Correct solution is to use the functions-ccat.php of the child theme.

So: why does this not work?

Well, it was hard. Should not be so hard to change a default image :-((

FYI:
The svg is hardcoded (!) in customizr/core/functions-ccat.php, line 1345, function czr_fn_get_placeholder_thumb
BTW: The section is titled “Placeholder thumbs for preview demo mode” which is just wrong, ignore it.

First I tried to move the function to customizr-child/function.php, but that did not work, don’t know why.

I replaced the SVG code with my own SVG, but ist did not show as defined in the code.
Turns out, the size/position is modified via CSS, so I had to modify .czr-svg-placeholder via CUSTOMIZR-Additional CSS, forcing the values with !important …

I am curious – how did you find that? None of the DOM inspectors in Firefox/Chrome/Edge shows anything for h3.widget-title:after that could produce a line.

I can find it now in the css – but I would never have searched for .widget-title, since there are 3 titles in the sidebar but only one line: because of the position:absolute they are all three at the same position, looking as only one …
