Custom post type seems good.
But how do I ditch regular blog post from being included in the categories?
Maybe I should do regular blog posts only in “uncategorized” category (if that is possible) and choose not to display that category in the category list (where all the custom post types are categorized into their own categories)?

Ok. At least how to know if the site was not built by site builder?

Any other tips? I remember 10 years ago I would say to developer – make sure website passes w3 validator with no errors.
That was a clear benchmark to set to him.

What about nowadays?

By how can I communicate I meant prior to the building the site.
Something like:
“hello developer, I expect you to build me a site that will get at least A score on GTmetrix. Are you skilled enough to do it or should I look for another developer?”

The thing is that it is likely developer would not know if he could reach the score (if he never tested his sites there).

How can I communicate to the developer I hire what performance I expect from GTMetrix?
So that he would know if he can do the site up to the stanards.

When you mention tags.

Is it possible to choose how tags operate, as in to pick one of the options:

a) When you click some tag, you get all posts (from all categories) that have this tag
b) when you click some tag (while you are in certain category) – you get only posts from that certain category (that have this tag)

?

If those checkboxes are there available in default WP installation, then great.
As I come from times some years ago when I could not assign one post to 2 categories.

it is easiest to explain with an example.
Here is sketch of directory site:

In this example is ice cream shop directory.
On the left you see sidebar where visitor would filter ice cream shops by:
1 layer – home made ; mass produced (ice cream)
2 layer – taste/flavor : vanila, chocolate etc
3 layer – location of the shop.

So lets say yo uar ea visitor and you want to find ice cream shop that sells:
home made ice cream
chocolate
in london

You click all these three tags accordingly at the side bar and get displayed only entries (ice cream shops) that meets this criteria. In this limited example it would be shop “name 2” that would meet the clicked criteria.

Super super basic/crucial navigation for any directory site.

Your first option would not work because it also would find words in the text that were not meant to be assigned as “tags”.

For example the word “green” can be found with the page of red audi.
For example text: this red audi looks nice on green grass.

I would need to filter specifically via assigned tags (in this case this page would be assigned “audi” in first layer and “red” in second layer.

It sounds so so basic task that i can not imagine any free search plugin not having this. Yet it seems it is not so easy to find. Very strange for such a basic basic filtering need.

Ps: when I say tags I do not necessary mean tags in an actual sense what they are in WP. I mean in general term that I would assigne these to the page/post in order to be filtered by them (as opposed to searching for any word in a text by search)

Hi, this is based on default wp template. It is simple directory site where I want people to be able to filter better (first layer company type, second layer company city etc)

Like:
a) design company, software company, logistics company
b) Us, UK, Canada

User would look for US design companies by clicking “design company” within first layer and “US” withion second layer.

not really, i installed some different plugin..

I am just going to use it right now, wondering if any plugin would be able to support this function that I need.

– re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

This is exactly what I did. Will try those other things…

Unfortunately not, as I was updating blogs this way all the time and all went well…
