WP Retina deals with images in the WordPress library and as far as I know not with images stored elsewhere.
You want me to start a new topic?
On one site the plugin that bugs with NextGen = WP Retina
On the site with 3 languages there is something not working with WPML. Galleries added in pages of the default language show well, galleries added in pages of the other two languages show only the thumb. Inserting the shortcode by hand does work. So here is something not right between NextGen and WPML.Same problem here I think. The last update renders the automatic insert of galleries (the green cube in the editor) blank OR (in an other site) looks normal, but inserts a code that doesn’t work at all, but only shows one thumb. The code that has been inserted then is:
<img class="ngg_displayed_gallery mceItem" alt="" src="https://www.lachapaudie.com/av/index.php/nextgen-attach_to_post/preview/id--239" />
This site has 3 languages. After the update only the default language contained the galleries. English and French lost the galleries and showed only one thumb…
I had to insert shortcodes on all pages by hand to get the galleries back.
I will now check all other sites that had the update to see if I need to downgrade again…
@mvbaxter. Performance might be a problem. But doesn’t this depend on how much ‘features’ you enable?
I’ve started using NextCellent Gallery on some websites, because the 2.0 update broke these sites and waiting for a working update was not an option.
NextCellent Gallery is a fork of the NextGen plugin and works just the same. It’s worth a try if you really want to get rid of NextGen.
I’ve tried WP Photo Album Plus, but that’s so bloated with useless features, that for me it’s useless.It’s working fine now. I’ll keep you posted next time I add a stream and it doesn’t work.
Yes, at first, but that gave another message (don’t know which anymore). After having added 2 photos the message came that the URL was incorrect.
This morning the stream did show up normally. Not a clue why… Maybe it was a cache problem.

I reverted NextGen 2.0.33 to NextCellent 1.9.15. Now everything works fine again.

In reply to: [Photo Gallery, Sliders, Proofing and Themes - NextGEN Gallery] Much improvedHi,
Thanks for your offer, but I installed NextCellent, to keep getting updates of the latest stable NextGen (1.9.13) plugin. I might be moving on to a completely different plugin if needed.

In reply to: [cbnet Really Simple CAPTCHA Comments] Captcha not showing in Builder themesI had to add a line of code
<?php do_action( 'comment_form_after_fields' ); ?>
to the comments.php template. That shows the captcha after the “Send”-button of the comments form. Not very pretty, but it works.Forum: Plugins

In reply to: [Photo Gallery, Sliders, Proofing and Themes - NextGEN Gallery] Much improvedHi,
You’re right, I don’t have the pro package (that was for another plugin for the same site).
And indeed a lot of the previous issues were solved in subsequent releases. But after these releases we weren’t able anymore to edit or add galleries in pages. With the last release all galleries disappeared from the pages altogether. Only the error message “Invalid Displayed Gallery” remained.This rendered the website, that leans almost completely on galleries, useless for my client. This is a commercial website and without it my client loses money.
So I’m back to 1.9.13 now. That’s even easier to manage by my client, bloated as the 2.x version of NextGen is.
I’m sorry but, I’ll stop using NextGen ASAP.
