Hi W.P.,
thanks a lot for your response again. I have found a different solution which will help me for the time being (WP installation on my Mac using MAMP). But once I have done all the editing, I need I will probably come back to this solution and import the database on the subdomain to play around with the new site in staging.

thanks a million for this very detailled description. Unfortunately I got stuck with something (probably rather basic). I had in fact created a new database in godaddy but it seems not be connected

1) I created a subdomain in Godaddy and the URL would now be https://test2013.erwinreviews.com

2) I copied the unzipped wordpress files into the folder you pointed out (testdomain)

I thought to have identified my error and tried the following URL:
https://test2013.erwinreviews.com/wp-admin/install.php but that doesn’t seem to work.

Is there something I’m doing wrong? My (easy) way out to accomplish the goal of implementing the new theme is to buy another very cheap domain and
1) install wordpress on that domain,
2) apply the new theme
3) export the DB (i.e. posts, pictures etc) from my existing blog
4) import into the new blog domain (with new theme)
5) once I have adjusted the metadata for all posts, I export the blog data again
6) re-import new data into old blog and apply the new theme

What do you think?
