i’m trying to use the theme editor in wordpress to edit them. Is there a way to control the permissions, or would this be controlled by the theme designer?

as an update, I discover that I can’t edit the php. Does anyone know what might be going on?

Samuel, an installer with install4free, repaired the install within minutes, with this response, if it helps anyone else. I simply cannot express my gratitude after hours of frustration.

I simply repaired the install. Evidently the installer hung on step 2 and messed up your url values in the database.

Wow! as an update, I just received notice that an installer from install4free did accept this ticket–and within minutes/hours, rather than days.
