In reply to: Static Welcome Page for WP CMSIs there a way to save an exact duplicate of this blog before doing anything major? I could then install the WP2.1. Then create the static front page. Once that’s done, import the posts from the old one.
What do you think?Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Static Welcome Page for WP CMSWell, I’m going to give it a go although I’s so afraid of screwing up my present situation. Perhaps I should save the blog as is and then start a whole new blog and then import the items from the old blog. Do you think that’s possible?

In reply to: Poker Room AffiliateWell, is my face red or what? Looks like it’s Poker Room that is the problem because all the other banners I’ve tried work fine using the sidebar widgets.
I’ll get in touch with them and sort it out. Meanwhile, thank you so very much.

In reply to: Poker Room AffiliateActually it was just html code but it didn’t work so I thought I’d throw in the phpadsnew. Well, we know that didn’t work either.
I’ll give your widget a try. I appreciate your help.

In reply to: Poker Room AffiliateMy host helped me with the Installer for Openads, so that’s there.
Tried putting the code into the widget.
Well, that didn’t quite work either. I was thrilled for a minute there. I do see a long white column the size of the ad but no writing. Under “And Now A Word From Our Sponsors”

In reply to: Poker Room AffiliateI don’t even know what I did nor when. All I know is that I’ve been trying for the best part of the week to show banner ads in my sidebars. I had no trouble putting it into my main site. ceconn.com. That’s because it’s written in simple html. The PokerRoom banners show up great. However, my blog is a different matter. It’s written in php and divided into sections or whatever you call it. There’s the stylesheet.css. Then the various pages.php. You know what I mean.
I can’t figure out why my PokerRoom ad doesn’t show up.
OK, then I downloaded OpenAds because I read where that’s the thing to do. OK, it’s on my server and I have the MySQL done. However, I can’t seem to open the Installer. It’s supposed to pop up when I type ceconn.com/openads but the only thing that happens is my blog opens up. That would be “canwetalk”. So, you type ceconn.com/openads and you get canwetalk.ceconn.com
I wanted a heading called Affiliates or Sponsors and under that show banner ads. What can I do to make that happen?

In reply to: Poker Room AffiliateOK, what specifics?
Well, my website is canwetalk.ceconn.com
I was able to install the Google Adsense with no problem because WordPress had a widget to put in the sidebar. That done, I wanted to install PokerRoom. I put the code right under the Adsense code but the PokerRoom code does not show up.Why is that and what am I doing wrong?

In reply to: problem updating .htaccess file in 2.07OK, thanks for your response. I did as you said, following your second suggestion. I copied the rules, put them in Notepad, saved it as .htaccess.txt, uploaded it to the root directory. I then deleted the old .htaccess file, then I changed the name of the new uploaded file to .htaccess. I then went to the Permalinks page and clicked on the Update Permalink. I then got a message to say I have to update my .htaccess file.
Isn’t that what I just did? Now, when I click Previous Entries, I get the following error:
Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Now what?
Then, when I’m in the server in cPanel X and click on the https://www.ceconn.com/canwetalk/.htaccess I get the following error message:
Forbidden
You don’t have permission to access /canwetalk/.htaccess on this server.Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Where did I screw up?

In reply to: “previous entries” link gives me http 404 errorI just discovered that the htaccess file has 0 k’s. That can’t be right. How can I update my htaccess file when there’s no information in it.

In reply to: Adding streaming video to a postI have several “photo essays” using Windows Photo Show and saved as .wmv, so it’s not a video in the real sense. I’d like to embed those “videos” in my blogs. Also, I’ve uploaded them to Photobucket, who changed the file name to .flv.
How do I do that?
