Found a fix..two steps…

1. add this code to your front-page.php file

<?php
        //TO GET WIDGET LOGIC WORKING WITH FRONTPAGES
	wp_reset_query();
?>

2. Add “is_front_page()” in widget logic on teh widgets you want on the front (not really a step, but you know what im sayin).

Hope this helps.

Ah…whoops, my theme system calls it “bookmarks widget”…it’s also called the “links” widget, on some systems.

Yea, I can’t even get the menu to show up in front using direct changes, let alone conditional changes. I have no idea what’s wrong. Agree, I hate IE6, but unfortunately my company has tools that run on it, so I have some older folks who use nothing but IE6. Which makes my life hell. But thank you for your reply. ??
