Yes that is correct. Clicking on the title of the posts does take one to the full post so I guess I will have to rely on people clicking on the titles.

I think the best way to fix this problem is to create a child theme

I did that and just did the hide all option for posts as I need the featured images to show up on the home page.

But with the youtube importer plugin I am using Youtube Ultimate Import plugin the videos I import still show the featured image and I have to manually change it. It could be that my youtube importer plugin is overriding your plugin.
