In reply to: [Akismet Anti-spam: Spam Protection] Akismet for SMTP serverFurther,
I am running WP 3.8 and get a warning that Akismet has not been tested to this WP version, and is compatible only up to WP3.6.1
When will it be compatible with WP 3.8+
Regards,
MikeTo get the site back up and running without any errors, It was first restored to a previous backup and then had a line added to the wp-config.php “@ini_set(‘display_errors’, 0);” to stop the error line from appearing at the top of the webpage.

In reply to: I can't determine if my site is recoverable or how to recover it.Ed Alexander or not,
my sincerest thanks for taking the time for your explanation. I may be able to—eventually— work my way through this now that I have a “to do” list which prioritizes the procedure. If there are any additional thoughts or steps to expand on this procedure they are most welcome and appreciated. From my viewpoint, the more comprehensive this “to do” list is, the betterForum: Plugins
In reply to: [BulletProof Security] I can't find my old website to access itThanks for your response.
I have located website backup files files I didn’t know I had and have put them in a desktop file.
Before I download WP how will I know which version is compatible (assuming these are the correct files) or what program do I need to view the files to determine what I got. Sorry to ask questions, answers to which may seem obvious, but I’m afraid I need it spelled out to me.

Posted 4 hours ago #Hi,
This issue may be resolved in others minds, but in its actuality it is not.
I hope any possibility of recovering my website is NOT dependent upon renewal of my old domain. I will be re-naming my website once I have access to it. I will be registering my new name with a new domain once I recover my website and action my intention to rename it. I have created a WP blog site many months ago which has been dormant since its creation because I decided it was putting the carriage before the horse. I thought my efforts since then, would have been better served through enabling my old website first. Unfortunately this hasn’t happened as no one seems able to nail down a definitive statement regarding whether or not my website is recoverable or not and the steps necessary to make it live. As explained earlier I am uncertain who my host was. I left those decisions with the site designer who also managed it, and who has since ceased trading. It will be a wasteful shame if I can’t recover this site. A great deal of money and effort was spent on its creation, but I can’t move forward unless I know one way or the other if it is recoverable.Forum: Plugins

In reply to: I can't determine if my site is recoverable or how to recover it.Hi Zephyri,
Thanks for your response. What a wonderful name you have.
I looked at the cache but it contains another website I used to have, which I am not interested in because it never belonged to me. If I once knew who hosted it I don’t remember now. I paid a-lot of money for its design and management with a company now out of business, so it is more likely I never knew who hosted it, as I left those choices to them.

Hey,
I’m 68 years old with a diminishing memory, and mental dexterity, with limited ability to float my feeble brain in a sea of data and information input (I overload quickly). I’ve given myself headache, backache, and ass-ache, trying to recover the above website I used to have—without any success. I’m not very conversant with all the technical jargon flying about, and get easily confused. I paid a great deal of money for this website which has been lying dormant, but now needs to be rescued and updated with many changes. I am unable to retire, and need to re-enter my business world under a new name with modified website. Is there any possibility of help with patience for a feeble minded old man. I first need to know if it is in fact recoverable.Forum: Everything else WordPress
In reply to: Make my site dormantI am like a “babe in the woods” when it comes to this sort of thing, so with some step by step guidance perhaps I may be able to achieve my objective.
Yes I will need access to the site while it is off the air so how do I move it to a local server. Where do I find a local server. Who do I approach for a local server. Would my ISP be considered my host?
