    Dear Mr. Allen,

Through this entire exchange you have done nothing but trash my system and told me with certainty that I’m my own problem. Not once in these exchanges have you even mentioned the conflict that I’m having between the two plug-ins I’m using. I suspect you have no intention to even look into it (after all, it’s probably my fault anyway).

You haven’t given us a chance to show you this.

Well, I couldn’t through normal channels. But now that you know, what have you offered? I suppose I got what I paid for ??

I suppose my friend’s two year old laptop computer is out-of-date and should be relegated to the trash can also.

This conversation has gotten boring, and I really don’t need your plug-in that badly. I’ll continue to depend on Akismet, and perhaps look into some other choices.

    Thanks for the wild ride!

P.S. the review stands on it’s own merit.

Well, I’m blocked from the WP Power Stats Plug-in page Support items. I just checked with about eight other plug-in pages on www.remarpro.com and I can get to everything on their support pages. I just have problems on the WP Power Stats Plug-in page.

    From my second post yesterday:

Last night I went to a friends residence, and tried accessing these same links from his system. I got exactly the same result.

I’m only having problems on the www.remarpro.com WP Power Stats Plug-in page getting to the Support items, and also when trying to enter your website https://www.redsandmarketing.com/

I don’t know what else I can do.

    Dear Mr. Allen,

I do take security seriously, and do what I think is reasonable. In answer to your seven questions above, the answer is “yes” to all of them.

I use Norton Security on all my computers. It is always kept current. My ISP is Cox Communications. I’m not aware of them having security issues, but then I’m not tuned into the security world and may simply not be aware.

Today I ran a full system scan on my computer and it turned up nothing. I also ran a full scan using Malwarebytes (latest version), again with no problems indicated. I do scans regularly so this didn’t surprise me.

Then I logged onto the www.remarpro.com Forums and got to the page of the WP Power Stats Plug-in. I can read everything under each tab except Support. Anything I try to view under Support is blocked. The message I get is similar to what follows:

    Forbidden

You don’t have permission to access /plugins/wp-spamshield/known-conflicts/ on this server.

Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I can’t put in a support request because I can’t get to it. I also get the same result when I try to get to your company’s website….it won’t let me in the door.

Hopefully you understand my frustration! As I said before, I’d like to use the plug-in as it seems to work well. But I don’t want to lose my statistical information as a result. If you are able to find a solution to this problem, I would be happy to give the software another shot.

    Thanks for listening!

    Dear Mr. Allen,

Perhaps you didn’t read my post above thoroughly. I didn’t trash your product. Other than the conflict it apparently has with another plug-in, it does seem to work.

My frustration is my inability to try to help myself (which your FAQs suggest I should do). If at every turn I’m blocked from the information you’ve provided, then I can’t very well solve my problem. As I said above, I couldn’t get into anything, including a place to request support. Last night I went to a friends residence, and tried accessing these same links from his system. I got exactly the same result. Perhaps your security is a bit too tight.

Not everyone out here in the real world spends their life on a computer. We just use them as a tool. While I’ve spent considerable time solving computer issues in the past, I’m not a “techie” and don’t wish to be.

I took time to read through quite a few issues other people were having just to see what type of support they were getting. Several times you have come across as one who thinks all the problems are somehow the fault of the user’s system or web host or whatever. The general public isn’t tuned into security like you apparently are, and I suspect most don’t have a clue with some of the things you’re suggesting are “wrong” with their system. For you to scold someone just because they can’t get into your world to solve their problem suggests to me that perhaps your aren’t very customer oriented.

My one-star review isn’t for a poor product, but rather for the difficulty with getting a solution to a problem. I didn’t cause the problem (regardless of what you’re thinking). If you see fit to solve the conflict with the plug-in, I’d be delighted to try your product again. And if it works, I would certainly update my review and acknowledge that.

    Thanks for listening!

I’ve reinstalled everything from scratch, and the site seems to be working properly. Changed every password I could find. Tomorrow I’ll start looking at some plug-ins to help harden the site.

    Thanks for your suggestions.

Aaaarrrrrgh! I’m afraid that I’m too late. I can’t even get into my website now….a number of permission errors and a fatal error.

I have the gut feeling that I’m going to have to reinstall everything from scratch now ??

    Thanks, Steve.

A few minutes ago I received another email from my web hosting firm. Included was a list of about 5o files which they had changed permissions on to restrict access to them. The stated reason was that they appear to have been uploaded by others. Since my WordPress site had just been automatically updated, that would make sense. The question at this point is whether the site was hacked, or if this upgrade triggered a false alarm.

It looks like I have a lot of work to do to make sure things are in order.

The credits.php file is reported as 14,676 bytes. It is dated as Dec. 20 (year not shown).

Should I overwrite this file with one the size you’ve shown? If so, I’ll try to find the file in a backup.

    Thanks,

    Cole,

Glad to see you’re back with us. I have temporarily disabled the plugin while you were indisposed. If you get time to look again into this issue, please let me know and I’ll activate the plugin so you can again review the problem.

    Thanks for responding.

    Hi Cole,

I noticed your “short support” notice has been pulled so I’ve assumed that you’re back now.

Several months ago you wrote that you had a similar issue to this one with an ajax function and that you might have a fix for this problem.

    Anything to report yet?

    Thanks,
    Jack

    Cole,

With your impending plans, I realize you may not be able to pursue this issue for awhile. Therefore I’m going to deactivate this plug-in for the time being.

I really would like to solve the problem and use your plug-in. If down the road you have some time to spend on it, please let me know and I’ll activate the plug-in so we can take another look at it.

    Thanks,
    Jack

P.S. Hope the wedding goes well. Congratulations!

    Hi Cole,

I just finished upgrading my WordPress minutes ago to version 3.6. Before doing the update, I disabled ALL the plugins. After the update was complete, I activated the WP Modal Login plugin ONLY.

    No joy!

Re-cap: the problem occurs when I try an initial login during a browser session. I have to use the standard WordPress login to get in. However, subsequent logins during that browser session succeed. If I end the browser session, then re-open the browser later, the initial login fails.

My site is hosted by 1and1. I’ve tried this on two different computers at two locations. Happens with Firefox 22 and IE 8.

I have other plugins, but with ALL disabled, problem continues.
    List of other plugins:
    Akismet
    Anti-Captcha
    Avatar Tooltip
    BackWPup
    Erident Custom Login and Dashboard
    Link Manager
    Post Views Stats
    Simple Local Avatars
    Subscribe2
    Unattach and Re-attach Media Attachments
    WordPress Importer
Peter’s Login Redirect (not using – deactivated)
Theme My Login (not using – deactivated)

I hope you didn’t try looking at the site while I was in the process of upgrading ??

Thanks for taking time to look!

    Regards,
    Jack

Cole, when I went to my blog, I noticed you had released version 2.0.6 so I upgraded to it hoping for the best. Unfortunately, I still have the same problem with hanging on “Checking Credentials”.

Due to the problem, I have labeled the Login as “Experimental Login”, with the regular WP login below (so folks can still get in if the modal box fails).

Another thing I noticed: I can predict when the login will fail as the modal box has a visual clue…the little cancel X in the upper right corner is compressed into a small vertical line. When the X appears normally, the login proceeds properly.

    Wish I had better news.

    Hi Cole,

Thanks for responding. When you ask for a link, I assume you mean a link to the blog site?

    That’s here.

I have WP Modal Login deactivated at the moment due to the problem. I’ll go to the site now and activate it.

    Thanks for your time,
    -Jack
