In reply to: [Media Library Assistant] MLA and permalinkThank you very much. This plugin is extremely best plugin ever. “All you need is MLA”- and “if need more, it additional plugin must be compatible with MLA”. As Justified Image Grid. ??
Ok, this clarify very much. It is wordpress handle it image load.
I found one interesting detail: When import pdf, permalink is pdf filename. So, just with PDF this “permalink = filename” work.
Just as this:
https://elkesan.fi/elkesan-tuotteet-ulko-ovelle/
And there eg.
https://elkesan.fi/d10000876/
(For curiosity, this page links are made using MLA:Elkesan Oy messinkitaulu sek? tyylitaulut
[justified_image_grid ids=1649]
Jaloter?ksen lis?ksi valikoimissamme on tyylitaulut, joiden materiaali on messinki? tai kuparia erilaisilla pinnoitevaihtoehdoilla.
[mla_gallery ids=1695 mla_markup=mlaelke])
Original filename of this document is D10000876A_linea5000.pdf, and WP make permalink https://elkesan.fi/d10000876A_linea5000.pdf but in pdf-files I accept a little “permalink manager”. But when import images, eg. jpg, permalink is not filename- WordPress make permalink using Exif/IPTC-field “headline”. Not filename.
So: With pdf-files permalink is ok, filename. But with imagefiles Wp not use filename, and this is wrong. Summa summarum: I must read all WordPress settings fix this problem. Or make any special code fix this problem. If you found any MLA-issue fix this problem, please inform me.Forum: Plugins
In reply to: [Media Library Assistant] MLA and permalinkSecond problem looks no problem- reason Wp automatically scale it image. So filename is also “scaled”. So it is not problem.
But first problem is really big problem. It really big problem. If load eg. 100 images, it take many days edit all permalink. So how force MLA use filename as permalink?

In reply to: Membership area “.htaccess style”I understand.
Main problem is: “I want also protect media files”. Follow this, all goes more complicate.
Membership area is quite easy to build: Using plugin, using native wordpress protection and even tradiotional .htaccess.
But, if want protect media also, this is not easy. It is “All or nothing”. Look it is no any plugin “selective protect”: Protection is allways “prevent all hotlink to media”.
It is no any method make any selective system. Selective system is: “Select some files for protection”. Or, “make any folder -virtual or physical- contain files for protection”.
So: this system is not possible with plugins and also wordpress natively does not support this. Now I see, this is not possible “easy way” and “native wordpress”: If any solution is, it is plugin. No other way.
Look it is only way make: 1, own plugin. 2, compromise, it is, can I make “prevent hotlink”. 3, make extra homepage for membership.
Ok:
https://elkesan.fi/this-is-basic-password-protected-page/
This is basic wordpress password protection. Password is testpassword.
When you open this, you can see there is test pdf file.
1. If you know direct media address, you can open it without logging in: https://elkesan.fi/wp-content/uploads/testpdf20201104.pdf .
2. Also search engines can crawl it. So, it is extremely public.
3. Address is not fully customizable: it is domain.com/pagename. “Folder style” not possible: domain.com/maingroup/group etc. (Eg. domain.com/students/class1…)How to solve?
– …domain.com/wp-login, user: class1, pw —-> open domain.com/students/class1….
(or domain.com/students/class1 —> open domain.com/wp-login, user class1, pw —> open domain.com/students/class1….)In my opinion this all is easy. But, media files (wp-content/uploads etc) are allways public. Maybe “Ultimate member” is answer, but this my system is maybe so basic, not possible with it….

In reply to: Membership area “.htaccess style”Ehm, “if you can do it simply, if you can make it difficult way”…
Simply I want add password protected area:
domain.com/students/class1 (etc, …/class2, class3). Password protected, and also media files protected.
Reason my homepage is builded using wordpress, it is not clever idea mix wordpress and old-style-tech. .htaccess is example: in history it was simple. public_html/students/class1 is folder and password protection protect all inside this folder. In wordpress ONE PAGE password protection is easy and standard. But, if anyone know direct address of the media file, he can open it. ….domain.com/wp-content/uploads/mediafile.pdf… also google index it.
So: Problem is, password protected area, membership area, also media files protected. Just as password protected folder in history, but WordPress-way. It I need.

In reply to: [Media Library Assistant] Import Word-document into WordPresshttps://kuvanjako.fi/ipodi.jpg
Eg. first line is name “Otsikko”:
template:([+pdf:Title+]|[+iptc:2#005+])ADDITIONAL QUESTION. ONLY I does not remember is: How MLA can connect this NAMES and fields together. Notify, originally I build my page using finnish version WordPress. First names are finnish. Plz see photo; eg. name “Otsikko” is “Title” and this all work. MAYBE IT IS ANY DATABASE TABLE “NAME ‘OTSIKKO’ = MEDIA FIELD XX”? Notify: Adding media work. If I import properly handled media (jpg, pdf) MLA automatically set all fields; keywords, description etc etc etc. I try read older topics, but there is no help…
BUT, original problem.
https://kuvanjako.fi/ipodi.jpg
Eg. first line is name “Otsikko”:
template:([+pdf:Title+]|[+iptc:2#005+])This work with pdf and images. Word documents you can check easily. Take Microsoft Word and edit document preferences. Fill subject, description, keywords etc etc. Then save this as “foobar.docx”. Then use Winzip or Winrar and extract this file; in Winrar it is “extract anyway” (sorry, all my software finnish). Notify Word docx it is zip-file named docx! THEN, simply find file named “core.xml” and there you can see all this.
SO:
1, MLA document import can read pdf and jpg-files. MLA can extract metadata from pdf and jpg. Question is, “can MLA extract Microsoft Word docx metadata?”. (As I say, Word Document metadata found from core.xml.)
2, IF MLA can extract docx-files, how to make template? Logically it is just tags from core.xml: [+cp:keywords+] etc.
3, and it additional question: “Is it any table MLA understand Name and field”, eg. Kuvaus = Description etc.I hope this additional information helps you solve this. Really, most important is, “docx is zip-file and it contain metadata file core.xml”.

In reply to: [Media Library Assistant] Import Word-document into WordPressRead more but it raise me up near to answer but not solve…
Looks Microsoft Word document is zipped xml-file. I explode one word document and now I am near answer but it not solve…
Found file named “core” inside word document. There is all I need: Eg. “Title” is <dc:title>titletext</dc:title>. Subject is <dc:subject> etc etc, keywords are cp:keywords etc.
Now I know HOW it must work:
template:([+pdf:Subject+]|[+iptc:2#120+]|[+dc:subject+])First +pdf read subject from pdf-documents from table “pdf”, then from images from iptc-table. This work. But, if I use my brains, this |[+dc:subject+] must work with docx-documents. Yes, looks docx is “allowed” etc, so looks problem is how to build this sentence… (+dc:subject not work, so this any… +docx+dc… any jinx… logically this +dc:subject+ must work but it not work. So this need any more… +? ++? *+? Or any magic-wand-system…)
Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Move media to one folderLooks very difficult, now I make all manually.
Now all my page is updated and use on uploads-media.
Question:
How I can delete folders “2017/months” and “2018/months”?1, Manual delete using ftp I can destroy this folders. But, then all this media does not disappear from Media library. So how I can update database?
– Using eg. “Media sync” I can update database and pick up images from uploads-folder. This is useful if move images manually and then take it to database. But, this plugin only pick up images to database. It not fix “corrupted links”.2, Any special plugin “search media from real folders and delete it”. Using normal Media Library I cannot make search “show me only media which location in real-life is uploads/2017/*”. I can only search media using date etc, but this not help me.
I try this “better search replace” but it is not as good as manual way. Plugin “Fix media library” also is not good plugin for this use.
Is it any plugin…
– I remove manually any folder from “uploads/2017…”
– Then “fix database and remove broken media links”Or, is it any “text editor” I can open any “registry” and remove line-by-line this type broken links?

In reply to: [Media Library Assistant] Bulk update, do not crash ID-numbersHi, now make some tests more, it clarify a little but not solve problem totally.
2, direct is it easy way, BUT…
Looks all my media is in one folder also in webpage.
Using FTP I can easy move this media to image folder. So, I can make mass-update also.
BUT NOW IT UPDATE of metadata:
Media -> assistant
Open media
Click “Map custom field metadata” and click “map iptc/exif metadata”Voilá, all metadatafields updated.
BUT NOW IT BUT, BUT.
THIS METHOD WORK ONLY WITH ONE PHOTO!! There is no any selection how to update ALL PHOTOS METADATA! So, only way is make photo-by-photo.
So: this works, but need any additional plugin… plugin names “Map iptc/exif metadata to all media”…

In reply to: [Media Library Assistant] Bulk update, do not crash ID-numbersHi again. Now pages are published: Not ready, but “better stop to horror than eternal horror”. https://elkesan.fi. I say it myself, we are one man company, but homepage is ok :).
MLA is really plugin by plugin, no other so good. It is very cruel but really flexible. Sometime it is not easy to use, BUT reason of good support, flexibility, bug-free it is somethn “without it you can make webpage, but result is… and work is…”.
So, again and again I must say good feedback.
But it what I continue.
Now my pages are ready. Strongly I use MLA and document id:s. Photo galleries good plugin is JIG. Of course I know all it is possible with MLA, but need much… template programming ;).
Reason I make all from zero I found errors. Systematically I see erroneous categories on photos or erroneous keywords. Thanks to systematic work, I can fix it. All photos are on my computer: “Photos_to_homepage” and I have long csv-file containing keywords and tags. Mass crunch is easy: fix’it error and put all metadata to photos using Exiftool.
So: This is good system. All photos on webpage are in one folder on my computer and I can make very strong crunch. Process is easy: a) I take any photo I want publish. b) I edit metadata, it is Caption, Caption-Abstract, keywords, Categories etc. c) MLA, and import this media —> and, voilá, all fields are automatically in WordPress! Not need any edit inside WordPress!
PROBLEM AND IT QUESTION
But, still this is not so easy. As you see, this system work. Take media, edit metadata from media, import to wordpress via mla. All metadata automatically set.
Now I see I have some systematic error in my media. Wrong categories, wrong keywords. If I fix it, I must replace all photos manually. Mass replace is not possible. Only way make mass replace is: “delete all photos, import again” and then document id is not same.
SO, it process is:
Replace media (photo, pdf, any mimetype)
– New media filename is just same as old
– Reason of my mechanism no duplicate filenames
– In new media metadata is updated –> in media replace reread all metadata
– Document id number no changeEARLIER you recommend plugin “Enable Media Replace”. It is extremely good plugin. But, only problem is: It is only for ONE file. So, if want replace all the media, only way is replace it image-by-image. Some hundred image. (Of course it is possible edit metadata inside wordpress, but better than edit metadata in original file- wordpress cannot write metadata to image)
So:
Document ID is holy
Replace media rewrite metadata, so “replace media” is reread metadata from media
Looks there is no good way make mass replace…?
1: Any special plugin “mass replace”? “Mass replace, do not change document id, reread metadata from media”
2: Direct database edit?
– Log in to webpage using ftp
– Locate media folders
– Move updated media to media folders as present
– In wordpress make any jinx “reread all metadata from media”3: Any other jinx?

In reply to: [Media Library Assistant] Metadata other other filetypes than image (pdf)Of course I must continue questions. I make this more and more and more and study. I found good solutions and immediately after more questions.
Main problem with PDF is extremely limited metadatafields. Of course it is possible make own fields, but standard fields are very limited.
This is my solution:
Otsikko/Title template:([+pdf:Title+]|[+iptc:2#005+])
Alt-teksti/alt-text template:([+pdf:Title+]|[+iptc:2#105+])
Kuvateksti/picture text template:([+pdf:Subject+]|[+iptc:2#105+])
Kuvaus/Description template:([+pdf:Subject+]|[+iptc:2#120+])
Tags template:([+pdf:Keywords+]|[+iptc:2#025+])
Categories ???I am sorry: I have english worpress now but some field names are still finnish in MLA-settings IPTC/EXIF-tab. So only way is make direct translate from finnish terms to english. Eg. “kuvateksti” direct translate is “picture text”. I really hope I can bend WordPress fully english, but looks not possible.
OKAY BUT IT QUESTIONS!
PDF standard fields are Title, Author, Subject, Keywords. Title = Title, Subject = Description, Keywords = Keywords.1. In my mind “Description” is long fairytale. “Caption” is shortened version of it. Reason PDF standard not contain this “Caption” must use Subject as Caption. So, is this possible?
a: template:([+pdf:Subject+ <get only 100 character>]|[+iptc:2#105+])
or,
b: template:([+pdf:Subject+ <get until found any delimiter, eg. “\o/”]|[+iptc:2#105+])
c: ?? Other way?
Idea is make very long Description and short Caption.2. PDF support Keywords but not Category.
a, any idea how to add Categories?
b, template which use Keywords:
Keywords: tag1, tag2, tag3, CC-Category1CC-Category2
or
Keywords: tag1, tag2, tag3 LIMITERWORD Category1, Category2
Looks weird, but:
template-keywords: “Read Keywords and STOP when found LIMITERWORD”
template-category: “find LIMITERWORD and start read categories after limiterword”….or any other way?
So, my questions are simply:
1, “I want use all three, Description, Title and Caption with PDF, but PDF not support Caption. If start of Subject-field in pdf contain caption, can I read: up to 100 character or better, up to limiter mark?”
2, “Any idea how I can import also Categories from pdf? PDF standard not support Categories.”Forum: Plugins
In reply to: [Media Library Assistant] Metadata other other filetypes than image (pdf)Solved! template:([+pdf:Title+]|[+iptc:2#120+]) as you say. Also I found what is problem. PDF is not so standard as images. This Template-work is just it I search.
Problem is, I start testing with Description. Field names are not so standard as in images: Depend of source, this Description is Description or Subject (field name). Of course, brains say “Subject” is “Caption”, but no…
So, now this is ok, only need jumping with field names…

In reply to: [Media Library Assistant] Metadata other other filetypes than image (pdf)Dear David,
thanks to patience.
Only one additional question:
In MLA settings:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1YCRwjj7J0Me28BzPbDdda_ae8KL9WHLn/view?usp=sharingThis all is MLA basic settings. I adjust this data and image import work as it must: MLA import image metadata. All meet Standards. I add metadata to images using Exiftool, but IPTC/EXIF is standard- simply add fully standard metadata to images.
———-
I want confirmation: With PDF this is not possible? Please notify, IMAGE import can read metadata and need only little adjust as you see in my screen capture.
https://www.adobe.com/devnet/pdf/pdf_reference.html
https://wwwimages2.adobe.com/content/dam/acom/en/devnet/pdf/PDF32000_2008.pdf
(Page 550)
Also this confirm:
https://sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/TagNames/PDF.html location “PDF Info TAGS”.ALL this tags “Author”, “Subject” etc etc etc are BASIC metadata inside PDF. About all software can make this. This is one public PDF-document, one user manual written by me:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1yOa4_-gp_2K-gMpPKb8_Cg9jqECP6utK/view?usp=sharingAs you see, there is some metadata inside, BASIC metadata.
So, my question is: MLA import image metadata and it works. But PDF metadata is not so easy? All this IPTC/EXIF rules not understand PDF-metadata. “Add New Custom Field Rule” -> Name?? + IPTC-value?? …??? I only need confirmation “MLA Cannot read PDF metadata, there is no any possible make rule for it” ??
