… yes, that did it, thank you ?? !!!… two questions, if i may:

~ do the elegant search icon and the clunky grey search box provide exactly the same function ?…

~ if so, how do i get rid of the clunky grey box ?? ? – db

    Hi, Kathryn;

Thanks for the link to the image at “cloudup”… yes, the magnifying glass right next to the menu icon is the elegant icon i am referring to… that same icon appears in the original display image for the Edin theme ( see link in my initial post ) too… but when you look here:

there is no such image next to the menu icon… there never was… if you scroll down and look in the left margin, underneath the “Recent Posts” stack there is a clunky grey box with grey content inside that says “Search …” – maybe these are two different things ?

Hope that helps, thanks in advance !! – db

    Hi, Kathryn;

I am discovering that there are more than a few paths to getting things done here within WP, some easier than others…

It is refreshing to find there are people like you that both have the experience and commitment to a particular rigor for specifics and accuracy that is a biG, bIG, BIG HELP, THANK YOU, YOU ARE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED ?? !!! – db

Hi, Kathryn; the link you provided above for enabling and disabling comments at the page and post level took care of removing all the elements:

    “Comment”
    “Post Comment”
“You may use these HTML tags…”
“Logged in as ____ Log out?”

that I was asking about, thank you !! – db

For Anyone Else: If you are reading this thread as a resource to accomplish the same thing ( i.e. removing the blog look and feel from parts of your site ), note that the elements listed above are all related to the ability to comment ( or not ) on “Pages”. Also note that at this writing the instruction set works exactly the same for the ability to comment, or not on “Posts”. Hope that helps.

… hi, Kathryn; i appreciate the note, thank you ?? !!!…

~ in installing Jet Pack, as you suggested, Jet Pack is requesting that i authorize a connection between:

    “EFFETTI + Jet Pack + WordPress.com”

… this concerns me because there are also specific user names referenced, which are related to two different accounts: 1 hosted thru wordpress.com, and 1 thru www.remarpro.com that is hosted at RackSpace… the latter one is the one i am working with here… i don’t really want to connect the two different accounts… the two choices in the pop up window are “Authorize Jet Pack” and “Deny”…

~ again, i don’t really want to connect these two different accounts, but i am not sure what i am missing and would like to make the right choice the first time… would / could you please advise ?? !! ? – db

… ah, great, thank yoU ?? !!!… will definitely check out your tutorial… the site i am working on is hosted at RackSpace, so, i’ll get in touch with them to see about Cpanel access to the site… thanks again ?? !!! – db

… hi, Luke; it does help a bit, thank you ?? !!… assuming i figure out how to successfully access the site through FTP, or CPanel, i would need some sort of “editor” to work with the file structure and code… correct ??… any suggestions on a “Best” editor ?… i am using a less than 1 year old Macbook Pro to work from. – db

… hi, Luke; i appreciate your note, and link, thank you ?? !!!… i reviewed the documentation in the link you provided…

~ however, i can’t seem to locate anything that even remotely looks like the area mentioned in the documentation on, or in my dashboard… what am i missing ?…

~ new to WP, which i forgot to mention specifically in this ( 1 of 3 ) post, sorry ;( !!! – db

… hi, Kathryn; appreciate your note, thank yoU, YAY ?? !!!…

( the proof of the fix is here )

~ so much for “user intuition”… oddly; the site editor’s link tool works ( or appears to work ) with no previous selection of content, and equally appears to be inserting the link text via the “Title” cell in the widget window… then, to the untrained eye, the code that gets generated appears to have the necessary components…

~ also note that link insertion within support forums posts like this one work differently than the link insertion tool within your site’s editor… ( just look at the first post’s link in this thread )… this adds to the confusion in that if you don’t follow Kathryn’s simple directions you get a completely different error set with no instructional help…

~ while i’m new to WP i am not new to using blog engines and have yet to have this much difficulty inserting a link… ever… another gentleman kindly replied to a different post relating to the issue, but didn’t suggest, Kathryn, what you highlighted…

~ where i was headed to fix this issue was a cumbersome exploration of updates, browser types, tests from other machines, etc., etc…. and possibly away from WP altogether…

~ from a ui / ux perspective i would like to offer that having a widget appear to function when the first step of the process hasn’t been completed doesn’t quite follow good design practices… this could simply and easily work much better… particularly within an offer that seeks adoption from a mass market of people with little, or no experience… just sayin ?? !!!…

thank goodness for Kathryn, i was headed for a whole lot of work that i wasn’t looking forward to !!! – db

it wasn’t the browser, here is the fix, and here is the proof… appreciate your help, Matthew, thank yoU ?? !!! – db

… yes, and no… i tried it on Firefox, but it was an old version… same result… i tried it on several other devices, but the browser was still Safari… i need to do some updates and then i am thinking about installing Chrome on the machine that i use the most… tomorrow i am going to see if i can’t get on a completely different machine somehow and test from there… thanks again ?? !!!…

… hi, Matthew; i appreciate the links, thank you… i posted in support/theme/edin several hours ago… the link insertion tool in the editor did NOT work correctly there either… nor did it work when i switched the theme to Twenty Fourteen as you suggested… inserting a link by way of the link tool in the editor(s) doesn’t really work anywhere i go here on WP… i have two sites, problems… support forums, problems… i am beyond baffled ;( !!!… believe it, or not, there is a link between that brackets below… as you can see there is nothing…

… no, just this forum… the theme review was somewhere within WP too… i don’t see a “themes support forum” on their website, here: ( https://automattic.com )… it is a free template, so i am not surprised that there is no real interest in supporting it directly, and, instead burden shifting that cost to the “community”… am i missing something !!?… appreciate your persistence here, Matthew, thank you ?? !!!…
