I use the Rank Math SEO plugin. I noticed that the ‘Open External Links in a New Tab/Window’ was enabled in their settings. It is now disabled and this seems to have resolved the problem. Thank you for your earlier suggestions.

Hi @zoonini, Thank you for the suggestion but disabling extension(s) doesn’t resolve the problem. I’ve tried this in Chrome, Firefox and Edge but not on multiple devices, only on a PC.

This is the code for a link in a paragraph which opens in a new tab (even though it is selected off):
