I found it by accident.

Had to activate “Automatically Update The Filter” which can be found in Options>Buttons when “Filter Activation Type” is disabled

So here we are. I made a minimalist example updating one product.

First I made a listing of recently uploaded files in wp-content/uploads/2020/05and stored that listing in a file.

Then I updated one product with this call and echoed to the commandline the endpoint and the data which are passed to the my PUT method:

After that I made again a listing of uploaded files and stored it to another file. The diff of the two files looks as this:

As you can see WooCommerce created six new png-files with a 26 as postfix in the name. If I would trigger the same update with the same data and endpoint again, WooCommerce would add again six new png-files with a 27 as postfix.

May the problem is that advanced labels does only hook to the normal WooCommerce product pictures.

A normal procut picture is included like this:

<img class="attachment-woocommerce_thumbnail size-woocommerce_thumbnail" ...

Where as the ‘Product by Attribute’ block uses the following line to include the product picture:

<img class="wc-block-grid__product-link" ...

I am not totally sure. I think the ‘Products by attribute’ block is a block which is available when using wooCommerce plugin in wordpress. See this screen shot:

The block can be added in the page editor. After that the block can be configured to show products matching specific attributes. For example showing all Products having red color or showing all products having a screen size larger than 5 inches.

Sorry for the delay and thank you very much for that hint. You were right, that stuff needed to be coded. I managed it now to work pretty fine by a self written php-script.
