In reply to: 2.8 upgrade killed visual editorAs to my previous comment about Firefox-related issues and add-ons:
Google Gears was definitely the culprit in my case. Disabling it fixed everything.

In reply to: 2.8 upgrade killed visual editorI had the same problem, however…
Everything looks fine on my Mac running Firefox 3.0.11 and on my PC running IE 8. The problem, in my case at least, is isolated to Firefox 3.0.11 on my PC. There are some differences between the add-ons I’m running on my PC vs. my Mac, so I suspect one of them is causing the problem. Sure enough, when running Firefox in safe mode on the PC, everything works.
I haven’t identified the Firefox add-on that’s the culprit (and it’s late at night, so it will have to wait), but it certainly looks like one of them may be the culprit for at least some users experiencing this problem.

In reply to: Problems combining two admins into one export fileWell, I read elsewhere how to combine the two accounts into one and attribute the posts from the deleted user to the other user. Did that and everything worked fine on the merge.
HOWEVER, now with the single user and all posts combined, I am still getting an empty file for my export of nearly 1000 posts with comments.
Any ideas what is causing this?

In reply to: Automatic upgrade to 2.7.1 problemFolks,
It may be an owner / group ownership issue. You don’t have access to actually delete the files necessary because the server thinks they don’t belong to you. Not the same as CHMOD. Your server admin may need to fix this.

In reply to: Glacial speed of 2.7?This morning it took a skootch over four minutes to get to a fully loaded dashboard after clicking the login button. Used to take 45 seconds.
And that’s WITH Google Gears installed and fewer plugins running than in 2.6.5.
My connection is fine, too, as I have no problems with other sites.

In reply to: Glacial speed of 2.7?Otto,
Thank you for your reply.
My understanding is that the boost Gears is supposed to offer is actually built into Firefox 3.X already, making Gears unnecessary:
https://lifehacker.com/392128/five-extensions-you-wont-need-with-firefox-3
Why add it then? I ran Firefox with and without Gears using 2.6.5 and recorded no discernible difference in response times. All I got was a bunch of unwanted, intrusive, CPU-hogging Google processes and less HD space.
My host is pretty speedy, too.

In reply to: Feed chokes on “<thr:total>0</thr:total>”Thanks, r00dhie! I’ll give that a try.
The bigger question is, if that call creates problems, why is it in the code?
Forum: Alpha/Beta/RC
In reply to: Threaded Comments Plugins and 2.7Familiar,
The WordPress team has found a way to incorporate many functions that were once plugins into their core code. And, usually, they’ve found a way to incorporate the unique ways that some of those plugins managed data. (Anyone remember how tagging was incorporated, for instance, and how it nicely imported plugin data structures from plugins like Ultimate Tag Warrior?)
Considering that threaded comments plugins are some of the most popular out there (especially Brian’s), I would think some method of conversion would exist eventually.
The question then is whether or not it exists now. That’s what no one seems to be talking about. It’s practically a Googlesmack, and no one is discussing it here despite threaded comments being a major piece of the 2.7 experience.
Does anyone who has actually used the 2.7 beta have any insights on this issue?

In reply to: [Plugin: WP Super Cache] Can’t delete expired Supercache pages after update?I brute forced it (delete the files directly via FTP). Whether that fixes the problem with the plugin’s inability to delete these files in the future is another issue.
