In reply to: Side bar linksThat appears automatically when nothing else is there.
Go to Dashboard -> Themes -> Widgets, you can add only whats wanted from that page. This will remove the default list on that theme.

In reply to: How to I get these stats?I don’t know much about photobucket, but you can use code in a text sidebar and then import it somehow that way.. Check their site for code that shows stats and go from there, all I can think of.

In reply to: is this possible with wordpress?Yes, you can make page templates that will alter the front page. While this can cause deep modification of your sites theme its possible. I may suggest using RAW-HTML after the template is edited just enough, then use the normal page space to fill in the code for your layout and feeds / ect.
I wrote on a few of these, editing page template, RAW-HTML plugin

In reply to: trying to unzip file to add my new themeIn windows XP (with updates) you can used them as ‘Compressed Files’ which are .zip friendly. Right click the file and you can then ‘open with compressed (zipped)’.
If for any reason this doesn’t help, download winrar or winzip. They will let you right click on the file, then in the resulting menu select ways to unpack the file.

In reply to: www is dropping from the urlOn a side note, is there a particular reason that this is needed?
I would check ‘Settings’ from the dashboard, there you can enter the domain of the site. It may be that you don’t have the www. nested in your URLs.
Shell access normally just refers to God level / Admin level access. More over it is speaking of the hosting account.

In reply to: Can’t select page template / non existance / can’t defineesmi,
using WordPress 2.7.1.
https://wordpress.pastebin.ca/1395373
Goal:
Homepage is static (done)
Other pages are default template (done)
One page has extra width with this template (grr)Thx
I find all my answers on Google searches, its not instant and sometimes it just doesn’t work, but the reason its worth it is because of the ability to not have to compromise on simply if the site does what is needed.
The gain from a diverse package such as WP is immeasurable;
– more ‘bending’ brings more dev’s, resulting in more (and better) plugins & widgets.
– deeper change control accessibility gives larger, more _website engine involvement, resulting in far more powerful tools as they are now more accessible to sub-surface levels of the site.
– larger community in general, resulting in many more posters and experinced people to help support the community.A number of years ago I started with PHP Nuke. It was a nice place to start but it was setup .. backwards from WP. Everything was static and you could edit the static areas, but the theme said where everything was and that was final.
Then I went to Drupal for a few years. That was nice but it was smaller in community, so where it made up for control and administration, there were few themes and plugins/widgets. This made it unattractive.
I really think that, even if its harder, WP is far more stable across the board. Easy stuff comes and goes but this thing is inching closer towards cms and soon will be the major name for being so dual platform.
Guh, enough of me ranting. :p

In reply to: Can’t select page template / non existance / can’t defineI’m still working with this problem, its painful that I can’t show certain content because it needs a full page width.

In reply to: recommendation for event/calendar managementI am also looking for just this.
I’ve used the ‘google ics calendar’ and its nice but limits my color schemes so I have a pretty bad font color issue going on due to that. If your sites font color will show up on a white background then I am betting it will work for you.
None the less, I still wish there was something more professionally clean like wp-forum, that blends into a site seamlessly..
