  • Same thing happened to me today. I also received an alert from wordpress-file-monitor that has notified me that every file on my site has been touched.

    hmmm… same here and on many other Flickr Press albums I’ve seen out there. :-\

    Same issue here.

    WordPress v. 3.0.1
    IntenseDebate plugin v. 2.9

    I don’t have to uninstall the plugin to see the spam. I only have to deactivate it. So far, every comment I have seen by doing this was truly spam and not a real comment. It would be nice to be able to review them though without having to deactivate the IntenseDebate plugin.

    You should use the permalink tag instead of the feedurl. Also opening in a new window can be done by editing your campaign under the options tab, clicking on the Custom post template checkbox and defining how your post should look there. You can use a standard HTML A – Anchor with HREF and TARGET attributes. Perhaps something like…

    <a href="{permalink}">{title}</a>
    {content}

    I ran through the rest of the plugins and was not able to repeat this issue with any of the other plugins that I had activated.

    I did notice through all this testing that the Facebook avatar does not come across with the comment. The “F” is on the avatar, but the picture is a generic faceless avatar.

    I thought I saw another post here about that. I will browse through it and see if I can’t make heads or tails of it.

    Okay, well it seems to be <drumroll>

    The Conditional CAPTCHA for WordPress plugin Version 2.5

    Perhaps it may be overkill anyway with Akismet and Disqus.

    I will continue with my other plugins, but I know for certain that the The Conditional CAPTCHA for WordPress plugin Version 2.5 causes this cross comment issue with WPBook.

    ‘nother update: I disabled the WordPress Connect plugin. Same problem. The first comment keeps getting cross commented back to WordPress, while the second comment seems to be ignored.

    Then I disabled the Disqus Comment System plugin (since my problem is comment related). Same problem. The first comment keeps getting cross commented back to WordPress, while the second comment seems to be ignored.

    Rather than keep going one-by-one, I disabled AAAAAALL of them, except of course the WPBook plugin & Core Control plugin, so that I may force wpbook_cron_job to run.

    Ah haaaa… This time, it cross commented both comments back to my WordPress blog, the first comment as if for the first time, and the second comment for the first time. Now we are getting somewhere.

    I forced the wpbook_cron_job to run again. Checked comments again. No new comments. Seems it has now remembered that it has already imported the comments from Facebook.

    Soooooo, I guess it must be one of the various plugins I had activated. Or maybe a combination of one or more? Looks like I need to do more testing. :-\

    quick update: I did add a follow-up comment in Facebook and it never gets cross commented back to WordPress. The first comment keeps getting cross commented back to WordPress, while the second comment seems to be ignored.

    Seems to be happening to me too. After completing my first cross post from WordPress to Facebook, I commented in Facebook to see if it would cross comment back to WordPress. So far, it has about 11 times (10 duplicates), same as @leecraven; same comment, same time stamp.

    Unlike @leecraven however, I do not use the Simple Facebook Connect plugin for like buttons and such. I use the WordPress Connect plugin v1.05. Other than the duplicate cross comment back problem, I have not come across any other issues.

    Hi Beel, That was a good place to start, and one I hadn’t already thought of yet. Thing is, all the examples I looked at, used absolute paths and because of this, so did I. Turns out that there are a couple of pieces of code that I put on the main template (index.php):

    <script type=”text/javascript” src=”https://www.eticketride.org/wpblog/wp-content/themes/connections/nicetitle.js”&gt;
    <script type=”text/javascript” src=”https://www.eticketride.org/wpblog/wp-content/themes/connections/sidebar.js”&gt;

    I did not have these on my page template (page.php) which I believe is used to create my “other pages” like my about page, mods page, contact page etc. I also had to add it to pages that I threw together without using the page template, like the who’s online page.

    There is one interesting little discovery though. When I revisited those two pieces of code, I noticed that the second one (for sidebar.js) still pointed to Luis and Carla’s site. Darn copy and paste. I guess that means that every time I clicked on my side bar to actuate a drop down menu, all those times I thought “Hey! It works!” My site was actually hitting theirs. ahem… sorry guys.

    The link was corrected, and both pieces of code were added to all the other pages and now I think I have it covered everywhere. Holy crap. Aren’t you guys glad I’m not a mechanic or a surgeon? ?? “Duh, I didn’t know that goes in there!”

    I was so close to saying Mission Accomplished.

    I downloaded the Neuron Theme and studied these sites:
    https://www.luisandcarla.com/
    https://bluegator.org:66/devel/neuron
    https://bluegator.org:66/deuce/
    https://www.kahpeng.com/weblog/

    That last one is also based on the Connections theme. All four sites seem to do what I set out to accomplish. I bounced around between them and the Neuron theme sidebar.php file for reference. I thought I was there. I swore I was there. Except for one thing..

    The drop down sidebar menus only seems to work on the first (main) page. When visiting the other pages, the menus are frozen in the un-collapsed position and the “button” is inoperative.

    I was so close too. I’ve been at this all day. Time to call it a night. Tomorrow is another day.

    Thanks for the help, fellas. ??

    Thanks Beel. I think I found the template here:

    https://bluegator.org:66/devel/neuron

    There’s even a link to another blog which seems to use a modified “Connections” theme (the same theme on which mine is based). Looks like I have some things to figure out. ??

    Luis & Carla: I noticed by visiting your URL, that you have this sorted out. I’m trying to do the same for my blog. Did you find a plugin? Or was it the javascript:switchit code? Can you tell me where you found the information to set this up? Tks! w-

    Ahh I get it. The param name thingies (see how technical I am?) are for IE. Geez. People still use that? I fired up the ole PeeCee and as you said, there was no clock on IE. wtf?

    I put the code back in and viola’!! We have funky clockage. Hey I like my funky clock. It has a snazzy calendar too. ??

    I even ran that xhtml validator link again and all is good and green again. Beel, you rock! Tks!

    I still don’t get why the param name tag for the movie has double quotes and the param name tag for the wmode has single quotes. Does it really matter?

    I started paying attention to the Valid XHTML link on my blog. Clicked on it and got 9 errors. Of course, all related to various plugins that I’ve been adding. I knocked out eight of them, but one persists. It’s that damn wmode attribute for my clock in the side bar. xhtml just does not like it. This is too bad, because it works. At least it does in Safari. Perhaps there is another way. The saga continues.
