Ah, thanks a lot, that solved it!
I went to Settings and Permalinks, and instead of “Plain” selected “Day and Name”.
Now not only the “Edit” button appeared, but each page has neatly changed its URL to match its title automatically.
Ironically, I spent half a day reading about this on the internet, and nowhere did it say that the settings should be changed from “plain” to one of the other options in order for it to work. It would be great if this could be added to the official WP manual.
