Wow, thanks for the various feedback and suggestions.

However, I sounds like setting up a css rule, whether it’s for pre, div or blockquote, makes a rule that is preset. I indent in different ways for each poem, with lots of variation. So the css has to be set up for each poem, which seems like a hassle. Please advise if this assumption is wrong. (that each poems style rules would have to be new…)

I guess using lots of  s is my answer.

    Thanks,
    David

I finally figured out the problem. When you fill out the login info for the email post in wp admin, the login name is not just a name, it’s the entire email address.

I hope this helps others who might have a similar problem.

    Hello all,
I finally figured out the problem. When you fill out the login info for the email post in wp admin, the login name is not just a name, it’s the entire email address. I don’t know if that’s obvious to people, but it’s wasn’t to me. Usually I think of login as a user id. (This login should be the same as your email browser uses to login, and that’s under server settings of your browser.) I hope this helps some others who might be as frustrated as I was.

Regarding my questions about FTP permissions, I found out it is not used at all. So ignore those comments above.

Of course when I went to check the wp-mail page, ALL 10 of the posts I made as tests suddenly showed up! The poem I submitted over and over was called Ache, so I had to edit out 10 aches. AHH, I feel less achey now.

I’m baffled. I followed those instructions word for word, and it still doesn’t find the mail.

I’m happy for you Mikofox. Did you set anything in your ftp on your server? Or did you just set up the email address on both ends and it worked? Which version of wp do you use? 1.2 or 1.5?

Anyone else who has any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I checked and rechecked. Everything is set, except the mail never gets to wp-mail.php. I followed the Wiki word for word, except that you enter domainname.com/wp-mail.php instead of installdir. But the wiki doesn’t mention if you need to set up ftp access by the postmail user name, or what the path should be.

    Baffled.

Anyone out there got this set up and have any ideas? Thanks,
    David

OK, I’m getting closer, I’m still trying to figure out how to post by email. I set up the new email, set up the wp admin. access to the same, set up the FTP cron to on, set up an ftp alias to allow access to the db.

The ftp form is asking what directory to allow access to. Is it /muse, where I have wp set up, or is it /muse/wp-mail.php, where I go to allow the email post?

Also, immediately after sending an email post, I went to
mydomain.com/wp-mail.php. At leasst it’s responding, but it says there is no new mail. And I just sent one.

I know there are lots of folks with serious problems, and my site is working great. I love wp, and it’s flexibility. And I also appreciate all the amazing help I’ve gotten here.

If anyone has any idea how to help me iron out this little hitch, I’ll be able to post next week when I’m out of town!

    Thanks,
    David

    You might try reading this

At least you get an idea of what else is involved. I haven’t figured it out yet, but I know you have to go to some other site to allow the post to go through. I got some error message when I tried that. see my post “help with email posting”. I haven’t heard back from anyone yet.

Things are fine w/o the plugin, but I’m baffled that it didn’t work. It was the plug in by Nick Momrik https://dev.wp-plugins.org/browser/recent-posts/trunk/

i’ll try installing again, but if anyone knows of a better plugin, which lists the recent posts under the category headings, I’d prefer that.

    thanks,

is there a my-hacks.php file in wp 1.5?

Thanks for the reccomendations. I installed the recent post plugin, and activated it. but nothing happend in the page. Am I supposed to put the code somewhere. And I didn’t see any “read me” file to help with installation.

I’m still figuring out these plugins. Any advice will help.

It’s amazing how much code you can put in a file and nothing happens. I put it in the sidebar.php file above the “meta” bit, and also in the admin-footer.php file at the top. Nothing shows on the site!

Another thing which was not obvious is that I had to enter the single quotes around the db info.

I solved the problem. It was the hostname. At the suggestion of a user, I entered the IP address as the host, and it all came together. I wrote a note to my domain host telling them to mention this if another user has this problem.

Suggestion for the install doc to mention this possibility.

thanks so much for all the help.

YAYYYYYYY, YES, I’M SHOUTING. IT WORKED!!!!

I tried that and got a weird error code, but I give it another shot.

Also, I looked at the install file and it said it couldn’t locate the config file, but it’s there. it’s not in the same folder, but in the same location it was originally, by itself.
