In reply to: how to create a miniblog on a page with in my main blogI managed to get things to work a bit better. I created a VERY crude category page template with lots of cut and paste, which at least syled the page to show the posts. When I opened each post, it was just too messy in layout, though it had my theme style, at least.
So, I decided to delete the whole project for now.
I couldn’t get the posts to that category NOT to show in the recent posts listing, even though they weren’t visible anywhere else.
Close, but no cigar.

In reply to: how to create a miniblog on a page with in my main blogI created a page using the default template, linked it using a “links_to” key to the “miniblog” category as suggested by HandySolo, and used the category visibility plugin to hide the mini cat posts from the front page.
Now the posts show in their own page, but with no style, none.
This is where I’m stuck.
My blog it

In reply to: how to create a miniblog on a page with in my main blogSounds helpful. But how do I “Create “mini blog” posts in their own dedicated category”?
Thinking out loud- I write a post to a certain category, say “miniblog”. That category needs its own loop and index, right?
OR, can I edit the main index.php file and redirect all posts in a certain category to be posted on a newly created page?
Or…
I am using K2 theme, with its own peculiar structure. The index.php has no header call.

In reply to: how to create a miniblog on a page with in my main bloghttps://www.superblogger.com is not a blog at all. It’s a shopping site. I don’t know what it is supposed to show me.
I want to acces the miniblog by clicking through a tab in my menu bar.
But I know it doesn’t require a separate install.
thanks,

In reply to: how to create a miniblog on a page with in my main blogThat’s the idea of what I want, but I’m afraid those instructions are not helpful. I think I need to create a unique “page.php” file for the new mini-blog.
I assume the loop needs to be in there somewhere, or does it?
If anyone has done this successfully, please let me know.
David

In reply to: changed permalinks, how to rebuild databaseI’m using the plugin, but I changed the permalink structure, so the old ones are not linking now.
I think I’m going to change the permalinks back. I’ve heard they are stroed in the htaccess file and shouldn’t be messed with.

In reply to: WordPress looks fine in Firefox, not in IEdoodlebee- with that header code you suggested, am I supposed to un-comment it? (right now it’s commented out, and with other code, that means it’s skipped over.
Also, with IE 7, my colors are not showing up, no matter what theme I use. The layout is fine, just no background colors or background anything.

I wonder if my delay in installing the new script caused some problems which alerted their spam police, and then by the time I installed the new script the process of shutting me down had begun.
I just re-installed the script to be sure.

In reply to: spam comment appears in place of my ownI solved the problem. It was a conflict with Spam Karma 2 and the K2 theme code. There’s a fix to the comment-ajax.php in K2 listed here.
Hope this helps if anyone else comes up with that problem.

In reply to: spam comment appears in place of my ownThe disfunction of the comment feature still plagues me. Has anyone heard of “alien” and “ghost” comments showing in wp 2.0.1 right after a comment is written? The real comment shows later, but the false one shows right after the comment is approved, in the area above the comment box.
thanks,
David

In reply to: spam comment appears in place of my ownI activated the other spam filters and increased the strength of SK2.1.
Now when I write a comment, the comment which appears immediately is not spam, but another comment of mine from another post!!! Then when I reload the page, the real comment is right there.
(play twilight zone music here)
thanks for any suggestions,
David

In reply to: number of comments not updatingThank you so much. I installed the new spam karma, added a test comment and the comment number shows now.

In reply to: number of comments not updatingANybody have any idea why wp 2.0.1 won’t update comments numbers? I have two blogs using 2.0 which work fine, but I’ve installed 2.0.1 twice, even after disabling all plugins and reverting to default theme.
Any other suggestions as to why this is a problem?
Are there permissions I need to set somewhere?
thanks,
David
