I did already test that. I sent the email without any customization, and yes, I did get the product link. That was the first test I did.

I got the email 3 hours later with the link. Then I tested again for speed. It still took 3 hours, but I got the link.

I then decided to test out the customization. SO I customized the email and had my husband order. He did not get the product link.

So does this mean the product link won’t work if I customize the email?

    Thank you for the information.

I was using a different plugin, and I had set it all up just to find out that a user couldn’t checkout with a $0.00 balance.

So if I opt not to use the free download extension and customers add multiple free items to their cart, would they be able to proceed to checkout?

With the other plugin, the checkout is through PayPal and PayPal doesn’t allow a zero balance, so they can’t check out.

Would a user be able to use the standard checkout form and check out even with a zero balance?

No, that’s not the link I am referring to. I am referring to the actual product link. The link to download the digital file.

The delay might be my host/server. But the fact that the link to the product is missing wouldn’t have anything to do with my server; I wouldn’t think.

Anything I can try troubleshooting within the plugin to figure out why I got the link to the product, but then once I customized the email, the product no longer had a link for download?

This is the add to card button, so it has the file Url: [wp_cart_button name=”Business Finance Tracker” price=”0.01″ file_url=”https://example.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/ebook1.pdf”%5D

This is the email in the email settings:

    Dear {first_name} {last_name}

Thank you for your purchase! You ordered the following item(s):

    {product_details}

Do you want to give back? You can do so in one of four ways:

*(I put in the link with an a href tag here)Donate a small sum for my time and efforts. (/a)

    *Leave a review and/or report a bug: https://beaconpointservices.org/editing/

*Find a new editor to mentor. Allow them to ask you any questions within a certain time frame, and if you can, help them find their first client.

*Offer your talents to the EAE and CE-L community if you aren’t already doing so. Think of ways you can uniquely help and give back.

Then the email my husband got:

    Dear Gary Chambers

Thank you for your purchase! You ordered the following item(s):

    Business Finance Tracker x 1 – $0.01

Do you want to give back? You can do so in one of four ways:

*(it actually said a href, so the html tag didn’t work) Donate a small sum for my time and efforts.

Notice: There is no link to download the Business Finance Tracker. I see that my tags were not supported since it didn’t hyperlink the text and actually included the a href tag. I knew this wouldn’t work; I was just testing it. But why did my husband not get the product link?

Thanks. I will talk with my host and see what I can figure out.

I tested it again today with my husband’s account. He got the email two hours after I ordered it for him, but the email said here is what you ordered without the link to the product.

So that is a huge problem. My customized links that I added were there (the a href tag doesn’t work, but I can just type out URLS, and they are hyperlinks), but their was no link for him to download his purchase.

The emails I got had the link to download the product.

Is anyone else having such a hard time getting the emails to work?

I ordered a 1 cent product four times last night, trying to get the email.

2.5 hours later, I got the email for the first order. 3 hours later, I got the email for the second order.

I never received an email for the 3rd or 4th order.

Today, I decided to test it again. This time with the links to see if those would work. I ordered my product three hours ago, and I still haven’t gotten an email.

I really want to use your Plugin when I start selling them for a price. I have already set it all up. But it won’t work if users don’t get the email for a very long time or worse don’t get it at all.

The fact that I am getting it just incredibly late does that mean I should set up my SMTP configuration, and it will make it go faster. Or does that have nothing to do with it.

Do all the product emails from your plugin take this long?

Yeah, I set it to $0.01 and it worked. And I might just do that, but I am not sure if that will discourage people from downloading. They would have to enter in their credit card or PayPal login for one cent, or three if they pick all three of my products.

Thanks, but the problem isn’t your plugin. It is PayPal. The error message is coming from PayPal; it won’t allow checkout with a total of $0.00. Maybe I am wrong, but that seems to be what I am finding.

Alright I fixed the other problem. I was able to check out, and I went through with the purchase since I set it to $0.01. However, I am not even receiving the email with my download links. I have checked my spam folder.

I purchased the product 25 minutes ago from a different email account then I am using to sell, and I still have yet to receive an email with the links.

I did receive the receipt from PayPal. I also received the message to the seller. But the buyer is not getting an email with the downloads.

Why is the email not sending? Or does it take longer than 25 minutes?

The checkout process doesn’t ask for the buyer’s first or last name or their email address, but I assuming it is just taking their data from PayPal. (I used my personal paypal account to test out buying these products.)

Or maybe the message isn’t sending because it doesn’t know what email to send it to.

Your documentation says nothing about emails. There isn’t a single tutorial or link on getting help with the emails, so I just suggest you add that in the future.

I have tried four times. I have bought the download from myself, but I am not getting an email.

I will just have to figure it out. Thanks!

I did check your post. That plugin won’t work, unfortunately. Eventually, I will sell these items for a price; they are just free right now. That plugin doesn’t show a shopping cart or add to cart of any kind.

I have seen other people sell downloads for free, so I know it is possible.

I just need customers to add products to their cart, and then on checkout enter in their email so they can receive the downloads. I have purchased free digital downloads on other pages before, so I know it can be done. I am just not sure how. Maybe this is the wrong plugin…

    Thread Starter dsrt16

    (@dsrt16)

I am confused that you are suggesting another plugin because this plugin does sell digital downloads. There is a whole tutorial on how to set it up…??

Also that plugin does not have a shopping cart. So I don’t get how that would be helpful.

    Digital downloads.

    Thread Starter dsrt16

    (@dsrt16)

Is there a way to collect their email address and send the digital downloads without using PayPal?

I like the add to cart feature. They need to be able to add whatever products they want to their cart, and then when they click checkout, I need them to enter their email and for them to get the email with the digital downloads. But once they add items to their cart, they get the PayPal error when they try to check out. Is there a way to bypass PayPal and just allow checkout where they enter their email address and get their downloads or something. Gah I spent forever setting this up, and now I just realized PayPal won’t let me sell free items.

    Thread Starter dsrt16

    (@dsrt16)

It seems it wasn’t working because the products are set to $0.00 dollars. My items are free for a time, but it seems PayPal won’t accept that, which sucks because I need them to be free.

I just need a way for customers to check out, so they can receive their downloads. Without checking out, they can’t get the email downloads…but they can’t check out unless I charge. Blah!

    Thread Starter dsrt16

    (@dsrt16)

Ok. I can’t test the email, however, because I can’t even checkout. I posted another forum question to help me checkout since it is a new question.

Thanks for your speedy replies. Almost there! I just have to get my checkout button to work and my email configured.
