Thanks for all the help.
My host (DreamHost) suggested a first step would be adding an SMTP plugin to my site, as WP’s php mailing is no longer considered reliable.
I have done so (WP Mail SMTP) and so far 3 successful tests.
Will update if I encounter future failures. At this time, this suggests UpdraftPlus itself was probably not really responsible, but version updates of it and WP exposed this PHP mail problem at my host.
Thanks again
Hi all.
Reviving this now, real life interfered with working on my website!
Since the events above, I’ve updated UpdraftPlus to 1.16.61 and my WordPress to 5.8.1.
I retried backups after initially updating the plugin, then after updating the WordPress, then again after updating any other pending-update plugins (none of which are for mailing / smtp).
The logs, which I can post if anyone’s interested, are just like the ones I posted above: the backup part appears normal and error free, then the last entry in the log mentions mail size 0 kb and attachment size 0 kb and in fact no mail is sent:
—
Sending email (‘Files and database (Full backup)’) report (attachments: 0, size: 0 KB) to: maste…
—Interesting item: I haven’t done maintenance on this site in 2 months, but one month ago (August 16), out of the blue, that day’s backup produced an e-mail with a log attached. As with other successful mailings following a backup, that log’s last line had a positive size in KB for the mail and the attachment:
—
Sending email (‘Files and database (Full backup)’) report (attachments: 1, size: 82 KB) to: maste…
—Any ideas? I’m a bit hesitant to fully uninstall and reinstall UpdraftPlus, if that is recommended, out of a suspicion I could lose connection to my existing backups – any thoughts?
I will try when I see it available on my plugins page (still only showing the 1.16.56).
Thanks
Last backup that successfully sent mail after (June 7):
https://pastebin.com/xjTaJCSPMost recent backup, with no post-bu mail sent (today):
https://pastebin.com/9TxHNZHPThanks
I toggled off, saved settings, toggled on, saved settings, backed up, no e-mail.
I also tried with “debug mode” on, no difference.
Thanks
I don’t have any SMTP or e-mail plugins installed.
For server SMTP logs, I could request them from my hosting provider of course, but with this problem starting *immediately* after upgrading (admittedly, both Updraft Plus from 1.16.31 to 1.16.56, and WordPress itself to 5.7.2, the same day), I want to take care to not troubleshoot in all directions. But the server’s SMTP log may still be helpful.
Does anyone else have any mailing issues with UP since either or both of these udpates?
Thanks

In reply to: [Cerauno] Adjust Sidebar widths or switch themAgain, thank you very much, including for the detailed explanation.

In reply to: [Cerauno] Adjust Sidebar widths or switch themActually I do have a question – I notice there is a fair sized “gutter” between the Posts column and the two sidebar columns.
On mobile of course these just align vertically.
But for desktop, I guess I could increase those percentages for the sidebars a bit and tighten the gutters a bit? Or should the values of 20% and 14% be kept as some best practice?
Thanks again.
