From (MT). Got a better tech.

When the domain droolinc.com was added to the AccountCenter it was added as https://www.droolinc.com and never created the proper domain directory for the alternate doamin on the server. When the WordPress installation was added it created the droolinc.com directory on the server but no connection between it and the AccountCenter was established.

Since you already have WordPress installed in the droolinc.com directory I recommend that you remove https://www.droolinc.com from the AccountCenter Overview page and then add it to the server again with out the www. prefix. Once this has been created the domain should begin resolving in your web browser. At which time you will be able to continue the WordPress installation.

If you have any further questions regarding your (mt) Media Temple services, please feel free to contact us at any time.

    Best Regards,

I may be misunderstanding the sub-domain issue here, so I’m going to post here.

I have a (MT) account. I currently have one account that was just switched to their GridServer, they were on the SharedServer prior to that, but the (MT) SS does not run WP.

I have installed WP 2.7.1 on my primary domain account, with another separate domain name, but it will not load to the ADMIN set up under that domains name. It will only load as a sub-domain under my primary domains account. This is not the case with my other site’s domain though.

    Primary: department99.com
    Secondary ( stand alone ): advertisignfreelance.com
    WP secondary: droolinc.com
    WP loads only as: department99.com/droolinc

I have the correct databases and MYSQL set up for both, but only the sub-domain to my Primary will load the ADMIN start up page of WP.

Could someone tell me if there is a way to get my droolinc.com WP site to run without it being a sub-domain? (MT) says I need to buy a separate account for WP to have it stand alone as it’s own domain – doesn’t make sense to me as my advertisingfreelance.com site works on it’s on url there.

    Thanks

I think a paid account on GoDaddy would be a waste of money seeing as I already have a Media Temple account. They are a proven stand alone host and I’ve been using them for many years. I would hope in the future that Godaddy would stop wasting consumers time with free accounts if they cannot support a simple interface like WP.

Your support department was not of help at all and never once said there might be “The free ad-supported hosting may have difficulty interacting with some applications.”

We’ll be dumping GD shortly and migrating either to MT or pointing to WP directly. A short cut that seems like a smarter alternative.

Actually that is not relevant to my situation. As I said, I went through all the threads and attempted all the changes. That setting was correctly set up by WP in the first place.

This seems to be a permissions and a FFox browser issue, as the upload photo appears in Safari, but not FF.

Secondarily is seems to be a host issue, as Godaddy on another thread has now said: “The free ad-supported hosting may have difficulty interacting with some applications.”

Huge waste of time, godaddy that is.

“The active theme is broken. Reverting to the default theme.”
That was the message in my WP Admin dashboard page under Themes and why I no longer could see my site.

Now I have a site up again with the WP default theme. It’s possible the Theme’s folder permissions were changed or the wp-content where the Themes folder is on the server’s permissions changed.

Update: The Theme was no longer in the wp-content/themes folder on my Godaddy server. So I uploaded it again and now the image is gone. It’s gone from the WP Default Theme too when it is changed back. I deleted the Theme and it reverted again to the WP default theme and bang the image is back up and the site works, so maybe this is also a Theme issue? I’ll try monkeying with the Theme permissions tomorrow.

But the site is back up. The image is finally loaded in the proper place and visible.
Now to see if I can get the proper theme back up, but I’m now also having issues with the icon images in the WP dashboard window. There are none.

I hope this has been helpful. I’m getting loopy now.

    It’s a permission error.
Godaddy doesn’t allow the upload to write. You can change the permissions in the File Manager under permissions for uploads in your wp-content directory. Web Writable and Web Visible. It uploads now and stores the file in the uploads folder under date and month, but not through the Flash uploader, just through Browser uploader.

New issue, I no longer have a site. My entire site is blank, even after changing the permissions back to inherit and web visible.

    This is ridiculous.

It’s a permission error. Godaddy doesn’t see the upload. You can change it in the File Manager under permissions for uploads. Only issue now is that I’ve changed it and saw it upload, I no longer have a site. My entire site is blank, even after changing the permissions back.

This is ridiculous and yes, I’m going to post this again on the upload thread.

I cannot get any of the endless thread fixes, changes, adjustments, or advice to work either. I’ve done them all, I’ve read and reread the many threads and I still get the same message all of us get that have this issue. Is it possible, I’m not doing the one I need correctly? Yes, but I doubt it. I’ve tried ALL OF THEM repeatedly over many days.

I’ve also switch from FF, S, IE (which won’t load at all) to Camino for browsers and that didn’t help either.

My gut is that this is a Mac issue as that is what I’m using. I’m running OSX 10.4.11 with 2×3 GHZ Dual-Core Intel Xeon. Maybe it’s still a Flash 10 issue and like EVERYONE the Flash loader doesn’t load either. Everything else works on my droolinc.com WP site accept loading media.

I’m so close to abandoning WP for good.

Naw, I tried to do it. It cost money to “upgrade” you cannot just switch up to Linux from a free account as part of the domain registrar.

Like everyone, most everyone, most Mac everyone’s, I cannot upload photos to my site either. I’ve gone through a mass amount of threads, like everyone, done everything and nothing has worked.

I’m really shocked at how buggie WP is. It’s too bad I would have like to have used the software, but I’ll probably just build a site now in DW. Seems a lot less time consuming.

Thanks for the help and good luck in the future.

    @samboll
Thank you, I’m going to do so now!
By the way, they told me I could switch, but it would cost $$.

Like I said, they didn’t help. I asked for a Linux upgrade and they only would give me the IIS7 as it runs php. This is my forth site (first WP though) and Media Temple was not helping either. They are attempting to push everyone to dedicated or grid and from what I’ve read about their Grid Servers I’m happy to give a free Windows one a shot first.

@t31os_ Thank you, I really appreciate it!

OMG!!!! I fixed it! It’s up after two bloody weeks!!!!
Ok, this is what I did in-case there are other’s that have this issue with Godaddy.

Issue is with your wp-config.php set up.
Godaddy must require you to use your unique MYSQL Database “host name.” So not “local host” or the one provided by WP here in the “possible DB_HOST values”:

    DB_HOST
The hostname you determined in Step 2 (usually localhost, but not always; see some possible DB_HOST values).

You can find it under your “MySQL Database Information” on Godaddy’s Hosting Control Center = dashboard. I entered that exact long name, which is specific to my url and blog name, in the wp-config.php and bang the WP install scripted worked!!!

    I’m thrilled.
P.S. “kmessinger” was correct this had nothing to do with a htaccess file and no Godaddy did not help me in the least in getting this resolved.

    (@droolinc)

After uploading all the WP files again, I get this when attempting the install script:

    500 – Internal server error.
There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed.

There is no htaccess file in my directory anymore either.
Come on WP, a little f’in help already…

    (@droolinc)

Deleted the htaccess file and still get a 500 error.
I’m going to delete WP and upload the entire thing again under ASCII. Again I’m sure this will change nothing…
