Ah jeez. Test post revealed the images still didn’t work. Even in a 100%-from-the-WP=editor post! I re-uploaded the images to ANOTHER new test post, also 100% drafted in the WP panel and they still didn’t work.
Opening up the images in Photoshop again revealed that the offending images were saved in CYMB mode and not RGB. Converted the CYMB JPGs to RGB and re-uploaded. They work fine.
