Bj?rn, what I found, when I deleted the plugin, was that the HTML appeared to still be related to BJ Lazy Load. Example:

    <p><img class="lazy lazy-hidden aligncenter size-full wp-image-14202" alt="feat_adam_clees_107" src="https://gearboxmagazine.com/wp-content/plugins/bj-lazy-load/img/placeholder.gif" data-lazy-type="image" data-lazy-src="https://gearboxmagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/feat_adam_clees_107.jpg" width="1050" height="250" /><noscript><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-14202" alt="feat_adam_clees_107" src="https://gearboxmagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/feat_adam_clees_107.jpg" width="1050" height="250" /></noscript></p>

In which case, I would be curious why the code will still generate BJLL classes/tags, when the plugin is completely removed?

    New development. Any second opinions?

Inspecting the image elements, I notice lazy-load attributes.

Double check BJ Lazy Load is deactivated. It is. Issue persists.
DELETE BJ Lazy Load. Lazy-load code still in place, all images break.
Re-install BJ Lazy Load. Back to Square One.

    BUT

I asked a buddy to test drive the site. First thing he does? Tries entering a bogus password on the only Protected: post on the site (which is on the front page, using native, WordPress functionality). He doesn’t get access to the protected content, BUT ALL THE IMAGES LOAD.

I’m thinking maybe this has something to do with authentication somewhere? I’ve mentioned this on the BJ Lazy Load support page, but gotten no response in 24 hours. I’m going to mention it on the theme developer’s site, too, but since this forum has proven most response and helpful thus far, I figured I’d share the findings with you first.

    Thanks. Sincerely appreciate the help.

    bump?

Plugin is deactivated, cache is cleared, problem persists.
When plugin is deleted, all images are broken.
When plugin is re-installed, placeholders return, but images do not load.

The real interesting thing about this problem?

There is (1) “protected” post on the site. Native WordPress functionality, but it’s my first time trying it. Once you enter a password – ANY PASSWORD – the images all work.

Does this make any sense to anyone here?

Thanks again. I gotta walk away from it for a while, but will continue trying things out. Giving thought to just running the default 2013 theme to avoid timesucks like this in the future, but really want multi-column on the index. Ah well.

That’s fine, esmi. I understand. The feedback on Lazy Load has me pointed in a new direction. Could be an issue with JQuery and my also running NextGen Gallery, which it seems has been having a lot of issues after the recent 3.6 rollout.

@media X, the password-protected post is native WP.

Ironically, this always seems to happen on a release day. I send an email pointing subscribers to the site, only to have something go awry with the site. Have to weigh the pros and cons of some of them hitting a screwed-up looking site with either no images or no branding (2012/2013 theme).

I disabled all plugins and the problem went away. I left them all active and jumped into 2013 and the problem went away. Sounds like plugin-theme compatibility, but things working normally when logged in throws me off, ya know?

I’ve got something like 4 years, 500+ posts, thousands of images posted. If I have to re-insert them all, I’m pretty much boned. Hopefully I can roll back Lazy Load or something.

Thanks for the feedback. I really appreciate it.

@media X – Deactivated. Now that you mention it, I seem to recall it parks blank placeholders in place until they load on scroll. Hmmm…

I feel like a right genius. Sorry about that.

    Here’s the link:
    https://gearboxmagazine.com/

I just hit it with Chrome, my default browser, at the office. Even though I’m no longer logged in, the images are showing. When I open the site in IE on the other monitor, they’re all blank.

As for the login variable, there’s a protected post on the site. (Maybe it’s the problem?) If you log into that post using password ‘metoo’ the page reloads and all the images are there.

Really, really appreciate the more experienced eyes on the problem.

    THANK YOU.

I’ll chime in on this one, as I’ve got the same thing going on. Images at sizes which used to upload in seconds are now arduously slow; on the order of 5 minutes per image to upload slow. As far as I know, the only change is the Elvin update.

Anything I can check on my end to rule out other options would be appreciated. Thanks.

According to my backup guy, I overwrote wp-config.php, likely wiping out the database. Fortunately, he had a backup for me from 7AM the same morning and was able to get me back up and running within a couple hours. It’s like it never happened. ??

    Yup. Content all gone.

My backup guy is already on it, but I wish I knew what happened. Suspect it had something to do with the wp-config file being missing/invisible, then being overwritten, but not sure.

Just ran into the WP3.5 image insertion issue myself. Deactivating Yoast SEO solved the problem. Just figured I’d mention it. I *just* switched themes after the one I bought over the summer didn’t work with Yoast active.

    Looking forward to an update.

Just thought I’d chime in that I ran into the same problem.

Clicked the auto-updater (which has worked absolutely flawlessly for me for a couple years now) and instantly got the “Down for maintenance, check back in a minute” message.

After that, white screen of death.

Tried to update the config file… didn’t work.
Opened the functions file in Dreamweaver… yeah, no.

Ended up doing the manual updgrade.
    1. Delete wp-includes and wp-admin
    2. Upload WP3.0 files, overwrite when prompted

    Site is back.

    (whew!)

    Still love WP.

In reply to: Plugin CaPa protct

I just tried installing CaPa Protect myself and got the same fatal error.

The only way I found to fix the site was to log in via FTP and delete the directory. Use whatever FTP means you would usually use to access the files of your website – My Network Places (Windows), Web-based FTP provided by your host, whatever.

    You’ll be looking for:
    (your domain) > wp-content > plugins > capa

Delete that directory and you will be back to where you were before you clicked “install.”

Now, how to determine what other plugin is causing this issue, short of trying to install/delete via FTP over and over again. I know I’m not running anything crazy.

    Thanks esmi.

I see what you mean. Because I had just been logged in to the site, I could see the preview, I guess. Once I logged out, the link did not work anymore.

I did have a couple people mention it to me, but they subscribe via RSS and probably read the story there.

Appreciate the prompt response. My fears are allayed. ??
