In reply to: 4.0 Fresh Install Themes Search ErrorHey, that’s a great plugin to know about. Thank you! Interestingly, when I ran the Test Connection with curl it worked. I disabled it, logged out and back in and the themes/plugins search still didn’t work though.
I’ve actually just decided to move to a new host, with amazon aws and start fresh. Looks like it’s going to be easier than figuring this out.
Thanks for your help, and the tip about the Core Control plugin.

In reply to: 4.0 Fresh Install Themes Search ErrorThanks. The result is identical to the original post where I ran it without the -I flag. That flag gets the header only, and there wasn’t one. It just spins for awhile and then comes back.

In reply to: 4.0 Fresh Install Themes Search ErrorThank you, but I was trying to forestall those kinds of suggestions by stating up front that I have my own server. I am the contact, and the one trying to solve the problem. I’ve read a lot of forum answers here on the topic, and virtually all of them seem assume the user is on a hosted service without much control over his/her environment. Nearly all recommend talking to the provider.
None of the answers I’ve seen actually address the problem itself, which is what I’m hoping someone can do. I’ve seen that the curl command I showed is an indicator of problems, but wasn’t able to find out what kind of problems.
From the number of articles I’ve found, and from the number of different times it has happened to me over the years I’m guessing this is a regular and ongoing problem. I’m hoping a future version of WordPress will be able to provide a better error message. Even with debugging turned on, the error message is virtually the same, providing no real information on the nature of the problem.
