In reply to: Images hosted by WordPress (I believe) disappearedI seem to recall an option once to save images somewhere to optimize display/delivery and I clicked it. But I can’t find it now. Maybe they once had a free plugin just for that?

In reply to: Images hosted by WordPress (I believe) disappearedThanks for your reply. I’m confused though. I just went and looked up WP Engine Support and found their site. They appear to be a WordPress hosting site. But I’m not using them. I don’t seem to have an account there.
I also checked another post around the same time – https://lerner.net/final-volunteer-days-at-tokyo-2020-olympics/ – and the images are showing up there. But those image srcs are local to my blog.
I wonder how wpengine got involved. If it’s not reversible, and if I can’t reach WPEngine Support (I’m not sure how) maybe I need to rebuild that post somehow?
Thanks.
Thanks. I notice some developers have expressed concern about maintaining their current themes that are not block themes now that WordPress has “gone block.” Do you think that is a worry?
OK, thanks. I’m surprised they removed something as basic at a header image. ?? I can’t be the only one confused by that.
Anyway, I’ll give the new block thing-a-ma-jig a try.
Is Twenty Twenty-Two the only theme now in the theme universe to use the block editor method?
Thanks.
Hi Kathryn,
Can you clarify just one point?
In Twenty Twenty-One while there is an option to add a logo, the option for the full width top banner image that used to be there in previous themes (e.g. Twenty-Ten which I use at hibikinokai.org) is gone.
So at some point the standard themes just stopped having default banner images?
Thanks,
doug
Hi Kathryn,
Thanks very much for your reply! It’s the first time somebody answered my question about this in different forums!
I will read up on this. It seems the Twenty Twenty-One theme also uses the new block theme. When did that start? I understand some theme creators are in despair of being able to maintain their existing themes.
Anyway, I will definitely check out the guides and give it a try.

In reply to: Looking for a theme that supports a fixed banner image on topThanks. I’ll give that a try.
Thanks for your reply. I returned my site to Weaver II Pro temporarily because a close friend of the family passed away today and I really needed to create a blog post and send out a notification and Twenty TwentyOne was looking skeletal so far. I would like to update to a non-obsolete theme again though as soon as possible.
I’m just talking about having a fixed banner at top. It appears the Twenty Ten theme, which I use for a non-profit teaching group I participate in, lets you just add a header at top. See hibikinokai.org. I’m surprised that basic functionality disappeared!
Anyway, I’ll look things over more. Thanks.
Unfortunately regenerate thumbnails didn’t fix that image. If it’s the only one I’ll try to manually adjust it.

I just noticed your reply. I didn’t get an email notification of it this time. Thanks.
One question – why is the preview image (which isn’t tiny) considered a “thumbnail”?
Oh, I see. You can regenerate them just for preview images. Trying that now. Also adding an extra Twenty Twenty One options plugin so I can add my header image back in.
Thanks,
doug

I’ve made a lot of progress. But, alas, everybody is warning me about how out-of-date Weaver II is. Even the Weaver site says it’s obsolete.
Some people were suggesting I just use TwentyTwentyOne instead. I tried it, but some of the preview images are getting truncated.
For example, in the Live Preview of TwentyTwentyOne the preview image for one of my most recent posts looks like this:
This is how it looks at my current live site: https://photos.app.goo.gl/zQDo2fBkjFbixax8A
And this is how it looks in the Live Preview: https://photos.app.goo.gl/b1Nvss83DHHpHAqB7
Any idea how to fix that problem? Or a suggestion of an alternative theme?
Thanks,
doug
Appearance > Menus and adding categories also worked. Thanks.
I’ve done some other changes as well, including changing to excerpts instead of whole blog posts. It makes the site much easier to navigate.
Some people were suggesting ditching that old theme altogether since it is basically obsolete. So I’m considering that as well.
Thanks for your help!
