In reply to: Blank page in edit mode / word count: 0I found the root of the problem. I apparently created the Legal Pages from within the Wp-Insert plugin (20,000+ active installations). Once created, they look like normal pages. However, you can only edit them from within the plugin. Otherwise they turn up blank with word count: 0, even if the plugin is disabled
If this is the intended behavior of this plugin, it would be better to give users some kind of warning or error message.
Case closed for now.

In reply to: [Wp-Insert] Updated to 2.1.2; WP buttons to big? Thanks for your reply! I deactivated the Blog Copyright plug-in and now the layout is OK again. So it had nothing to do with Wp Insert.
Thanks again.

In reply to: [Wp-Insert] How to setup Legal Pages? Thanks for your reply, but I still do not understand.
Assume that I want to publish the “Privacy Policy” page. If I click on “Assign Page(s), an empty field appears. Do I have to type something in it? Like “Privacy Policy” or something?
Next when I click on the blue arrow next to the empty field, a box appears with my 2 already existing pages, but no new Legal Pages?
Third, how do I get a menu item for “Privacy Policy”.
Please, can someone provide a step by step tutorial for noobs?
Thanks!
It works great. I’ve got my site (low traffic) up for 8 months now and have NEVER received any spam – Zero.
Thanks! That worked.
The strange thing is, deactivating the plugin is not enough. I have to delete it to get the Plugin Editor to work again.
Anyone?

In reply to: Plugins Don't installI know what your mean, I’m quite new to WP also and was also dissapointed; installing WP is easy, but after the initial setup you run into all kinds of problems. Many of the problems I encountered where related to file permissions. I haven’t seen this with other cms’s and I think the devellopers should find a user friendly solution for this.
Use an FTP prog (Filezilla works great and is free) to change the file permissions. Try setting (chmod) the wp-content folder to 777 and the plugin folder to 775. If that does mot work, try temporary turning php save mode off, if your host allows you to do this. If that doesn’t work, set all wp-content folders AND files to 777; but don’t forget to set it back to 755 for security reasons.
That’s how I got the plugin system to work. Also read this.
Good luck!

In reply to: Multiple PHP Files need to be incorporatedI’m quite new to WP too and have migrated part of the content of an old SMF forum to WP.
I’ve got a couple of simple external html-files (non posts/pages) in my wp-content folder, which I often include in posts using the AmberPanther WP Include File plugin. I’ve changed the extension of these files to .php. Perhaps you can try if it works in wp pages for you too? If file paths break, try using full url’s rather then relative paths.
But, if there’s only 11 external files, why don’t you copy/paste to new pages? I use the Windows Spartan multi-clipboard for copy/paste operations.
Thanks, installs and works fine!

In reply to: What is a preferred domain registrar? All my domain-names are hosted at Godaddy. All my websites are hosted on my own Plesk VPS (Virtual Private Server). So I’m my own hosting company/admin and I’m my only client. I can create up to 10 user accounts. Setting it up was easy and only $90 for the first year and $180/year after that.
For domains Godaddy is great. The system is fully automated 24×7 and they’ve got a great app which enables you to manage everything from your Mobile Device.
I somehow didn’t like Godaddy as web-host and I don’t like their agressive selling methods in general.
As a work around I’ve forwarded the complete domain myoldsmfforum.com to mynewblog.com from my user account at my domain-name host, using the domain manager (DNS) in that account.
Aaaahhh, the work-around doesn’t work either. I thought it would sent all traffic from my old SMF domain to my new blog; but it doesn’t. It keeps looking for the old URLs.
Gotta find a solution for this ’cause I loose a couple of Dollars every day and dissapointed visitors too….

In reply to: Why is my website not showing in Google Search? My website went live a couple of days ago. I checked Google 2 days later and my site has already been listed, i think on the same day it went live! Bing and Yahoo have picked it op too.
I use Google and Bing webmaster tools. And I get visitor from an old domain (same subject) which I’ve forwarded to my new blog.
