In reply to: How to redirect permalinks after structure changeYes, each of my sub-domains has its own htaccess file, which is why I didn’t expect this problem at all!
It seems as though the htaccess for the primary domain is taking precedence over the htaccess for the sub-domains.

In reply to: 301 Redirect for Permalinks?Update – I just found exactly what I was looking for. Should’ve thought to check Yoast’s blog first!!!
https://yoast.com/change-wordpress-permalink-structure/
So simple, worked like a charm.

In reply to: 301 Redirect for Permalinks? Thanks – unfortunately neither of these plugins is being supported any more. The second one looks as though it would be perfect, but it doesn’t work because there’s no way to tell it to include the base URL.

In reply to: Sub-folders vs sub-domainsThanks!
I have to apologise, I took it off the front page because of the issue (and if you check my original post, I say I double-checked that I had the sharing options unchecked).
I’ve just tried resetting it as the front page, and it’s now working there – must have been fixed in an upgrade since.
However, one more question – if I make the page an ordinary page again, the sharing buttons reappear on the excerpts, even though I’ve got the sharing option unchecked. Is that correct?
@waffenss, thanks but I don’t need the functionality of that plugin anywhere else on the blog, so I’m a bit reluctant to add a whole plugin just for this one little problem.
Oops, sorry. The blog is geo-targeted because I’m an eBay affiliate and it reduces my income if people from non-eBay countries click on the ads. I see you’re in Hungary – I’ve added Hungary to the list of allowed countries so you should be able to see it now.
I started this thread and my issue is NOT resolved.
Because of the problem, I’ve stopped using the page as my front page, here it is:

The “show sharing buttons” box at the bottom of the page is not checked, yet they still show.

In reply to: Displaying Images Without Tables – how?Krishna, I have used a table, but I’m told that’s not a good idea.

In reply to: Displaying Images Without Tables – how? Thanks yogi. I can see what that’s doing, but have no idea how to apply it to my page. I’m a total dunce at CSS I’m afraid, I’m not even sure where to paste it. Maybe I’ll just live with it as is, thanks for trying to help!

In reply to: Widgets Appearing In the Wrong PlaceMarcy, I found the Valdator hard to follow the first time, too.I know WPyogi says it has lots of helpful information, but personally I can never understand a word of it. However that doesn’t mean it’s not useful.
The validator site is finding errors in the coding of your website. They’re probably not mistakes you’ve made: maybe you’ve chosen a badly coded theme, or some badly coded plugins, for instance. One of the things you learn is that not all themes or plugins are perfectly designed!
You can have markup errors for ages and not even know it – then you change something, or update something, and it’s the straw that broke the camel’s back and everything goes haywire.
I notice some of your markup errors are from Shareaholic. So try deactivating that plugin, run the validator again and see if that gets rid of some errors. If it does, Jetpack is a good alternative for sharing (and does a lot of other stuff as well).
You can do the same with the other errors – see if you can identify any of them as belonging to plugins, and if they do, deactivate each plugin, one at a time, and see if the error goes away – and if your sidebar goes back to its rightful place.

In reply to: Attempted to change something now can't get into my blog at allI made this mistake a few times myself! There are a few ways to fix it depending on your setup.
If you’re using one theme but still have the default theme sitting there, then an easy fix is to go to your cPanel, go to File Manager and delete the theme you changed. The blog will revert to the default theme.
You will then be able to get back into your dashboard and upload the right theme again.
A lesson for the future – if you’re going to change any coding at all, take a copy of the file and save it on Notepad or something. Then if it all goes haywire, you can just edit that one file and replace the original

In reply to: Need to design my theme css similar to other siteWhy bother doing all that work, when you can get a ready-made theme that will do the job?
Try checking out the Hybrid Theme and its child themes.

In reply to: Displaying Images Without Tables – how? Thanks vtxyzzy, but they’re not posts. They are images.
I’m having this trouble too.
I’ve tried posting both with and without using Twitter, Facebook etc.
In every case, I get this message:
“You may have disabled javascript. Please enable javascript before leaving a comment on this site.”
I have triple-checked and I do have javascript enabled.
