In reply to: New Template BreaksThanks. I didn’t know where to look. Now I understand what is going on.
@carolyg19
If you post a new question would you link to it from here so that I can find it.Thanks
Okay, thanks.
Two comments:
1. I’m not sure that I can help. I wasn’t messing with the mod_rewrite. However…..
2.why don’t you post your question as a new question and in the meantime I will find what I did and post the code as an answer to your new question.To be honest there are plenty of experts around here who could probably answer your question much better than I can. With that said why don’t you let us know the specifics of what you want.
Thanks.
@carolyg19
Would you point me to the question you are referring to.Thanks.
Update Thursday : Sep 29, 2011
Further experiments indicate that adding the template tag functions are unnecessary. I guess the plugin gives access to all the template tags and so the only requirement should be to include the tag in the template.
However, I’m finding that anything I include in the loop will not work. By contrast if I add a tag likeget_series_toc()
in a template it works as expected.Are there any examples of how these template tags are used inside loops?
Thanks

In reply to: Templates in child themeCockpit error – meaning to imply that the problem was mine and nothing to do with the code or WordPress.
Sorry I can’t offer any advice on what may be the source of your problem. I usually find that templates don’t appear because I’ve forgotten to modify the template name in the head of the template document but in your case they must be correct if it was previously working.
Are all your templates still present on the server – just a thought.

In reply to: Templates in child themeIn case anyone else has this question, templates in the child folder do appear in the drop down list.

In reply to: Templates in child themeThanks for your response.
The documentation mentions storing the template in the theme folder but apart from one example doesn’t mention child themes.
WordPress can be configured to use different Page Templates for different Pages. Toward the bottom of the Write > Page administration panel (or on the sidebar, depending on which version of WordPress you are using) is a drop-down labeled “Page Template.” From there you can select which Template will be used when displaying this particular Page.
The template I just added is not appearing but perhaps its cockpit error.
I wanted to make sure that my expectation that the new template will appear in the list is the correct expectation.

In reply to: Custom posts not recognized after upgrade to 3.1.1Thanks for the feedback.
Your advice was right on. The plugin for the custom post UI was causing the problem. Now fixed and working.

In reply to: adding multiple widgetsAh, I was trying to drag them from the bottom group, “inactive”, and of course that doesn’t work. They need to come from the top group.
Thanks.Forum: Themes and Templates

Thanks for your response and for the link.
I have a couple of blogs, one uses twentyten theme.
I have some page templates added to twentyten theme and so it sounds as though I should move them to the child theme.
But to conclude it would seem that the best practice is to put new page templates into the child theme even though its not always necessary.
Thanks.
