In reply to: Classic Block Automatically Changes Content to Multiple Blocks@bluephyre Jocah I have found a solution! I successfully tested this over and over on a really long article and then did a couple more articles. It’s simple too. I was copying from an existing article from a PDF but of course you can do this if you are writing an article too. I copied each paragraph and pasted it, then instead of hitting ‘return’ to make a new line, I did a soft return by holding down the shift key then hitting the return button. Generally in order to make a space the same size as what the return key alone does you have to do 2 soft returns. In other words, hold shift + press return twice for each new paragraph. This keeps it within the Classic block still but allows you to create separate paragraphs. This has solved the problem for me, I hope it works for you too.
It’s almost unbelievable to me that WordPress has done this to the classic block while still years after switching to the block structure does not have a text and image block that is designed to look nice and allow us to have an image within the text in a way looks professional and well designed. The ugly and awkward looking implementation of the text + image block, creating huge gaps above and below unless your photo is exactly the same height as the text is useless in the case of a magazine format with text and images. Even the need to keep the classic block around because they have not come up with a decent text+image block is really lame of them. Then they make this change (for what reason I cannot imagine, seems arbitrary) trying to force us into using the paragraph blocks. When they do things like this I regret updating my WP version, and it makes me consider not upgrading on sites where I haven’t yet, even though I am really good about upgrading and understand the security fixes are important.

In reply to: Classic Block Automatically Changes Content to Multiple BlocksI am now experiencing the same issue since I updated WordPress. It looks like no one has helped you here on the www.remarpro.com site. Did you get any help elsewhere @bluephyre or figure out a solution to this?
I use the Classic block for the same reason you do, so I can add images, for my purposes I use a left or right alignment and want the text to wrap around the images. This is hard to achieve with the other blocks, even when using columns.
Updated the site’s php version to 8.2 or greater.
I have found the cause of the problem and fixed this now.
Here is the root php error log
Hi @vupdraft, sorry it’s taken me so long to get this done. I have deactivated all other plugins and tried to run a backup. Same thing happens. The backup never starts and there is the message talking about “Scheduling a resumption (3) after 300 seconds (1733284374) in case this run gets aborted (Dec 03 19:47:54)”
It looks like the newest version is still doing the same thing.
Scheduling a resumption (1) after 300 seconds (1732224069) in case this run gets aborted (Nov 21 13:16:09)
So please advise on where to go from here. I was hopeful that the 1.24.2 version would work at least so I could backup and do the updates that are needed. There is now a new WordPress update, and I have no way to backup even just the database.
I’ve just uploaded the 1.24.2 version, purged the cache and tried again. Got the same issue and error message. I tried a couple times. Same every time.
Failed to gain semaphore lock (fd) - another backup of this type is apparently already active - aborting (if this is wrong - i.e. if the other backup crashed without removing the lock, then another can be started after 3 minutes) (Nov 21 13:09:06)
I see that there is a new version out. So I’m going to try to update to that and see if the issue is fixed.
@jonasoo that’s great! And thank you for posting here. It will help others who have the same problem and it was a great reminder to me that I need to do this. I had gotten pulled off into other work and forgot about it. Thank you!
Hi Nick, no worries. I changed the “Split Archives Every” option to 25 (it was 400) and tried again. Same thing is happening still.
I have added that RewriteRule to the top level .htaccess file, still the same issue persists.
Previously with the same lite speed server Updraft Plus worked without issue. That changes sometime in October. The last backup I have is from October 21st. So somewhere around that time depending on when I updated plugins I’m thinking there might have been a change to that update which is causing the issue.
I even tried just now only backing up the database, which is pretty small and that failed in the same way.
I’m just looking in the wp-content > updraft folder and I see that there is another .htaccess file there. Was that the one that I was supposed to add the RewriteRule to? The reply I got didn’t specify so I assumed it was the top level file.
I’m seeing files in the wp-content > updraft folder that look like backups, but none of them have the date of the two files that are showing up in the Updraft dashboard. There are only 2 backups showing in the WP admin Updraft dashboard, Oct 15 & 21st. I don’t see files with that date when looking in the folder on the server. It looks like these files are all from 2021 from the file names (e.g. backup_2021-11-03-1622_ with site name and guid added after the _), but in the date column it says 5/8/24 for all of them. Can I safely delete those old files?
Using the same host, also using a Lite Speed Server another site running Updraft v1.24.2 works fine as it always has (on both sites), but the site having the problem is using Updraft Version 1.24.7. So something broke in one of those versions after v1.24.2.

Hi Nick, thank you for your speedy reply. I’m just trying to back up to local storage when I’m getting these errors, and we have plenty of space.
We do have remote backups scheduled to a Google drive, weekly full backup and daily database only backups. I don’t have access to that storage, but it looks like those have been failing too. The last one was Oct 21.
Hi Pratik,
On the staging site I set up even with all the plugins deactivated and using a default theme the issue with the Customize sidebar persists.
Video not showing issue
However, the issue with the video on the homepage did get cleared up just by changing the theme. I have activated the plugins, so it’s the theme that is causing issues with the video not showing up.I can give you a login to the staging server if you want. Let me know. I also don’t want to post the link here publicly so let me know how I can get that info to you privately.
Thanks,
DonnaHi Pratik, thank you for your quick reply. I’ve read through the steps and rather than do this on our live site and disrupt things for visitors I’m going to create a staging site, see if it has the same problems and then do the steps there.
Also another issue is on our home page we have a video, using the video blocks. It has disappeared from view. It’s still there but it’s not showing and there is not an empty space where it should be. So I’ll see if these steps take care of that or not and let you.
Hi Ben,
Sure, how can I send it to you privately?
