ScottEvil, this isn’t to do with Google Gears but might be an answer to your problem with uploading the .swf files. Were you running the WordPress Automatic Upgrade plugin while having the Flashblock extension installed in Firefox? I had the exact same problem as you. Disabling Flashblock while running the WPAU upgrade solved the problem for me.

I have a couple of relatively minor problems following the upgrade.

Firstly, my text is no longer being converted into HTML entities (eg. — isn’t becoming —; ” ” isn’t becoming “ ??, etc).

Also, comment author URLs are messing up a bit. I think it’s happening for people who don’t enter the ‘https://’ at the beginning, resulting in broken links. I am sure this never happened before. The strange thing is, the URLs appear fine on the Favatar links.

Do you use Alex King’s Popularity Contest plugin? I had the same problem, but when I replaced the old beta version of Popularity Contest with Version 1.0 the problem was fixed.

I have a separate problem with the mod_rewrite stuff..

I changed my permalink structure to /%year%/%monthnum%/%postname%/ . I changed my .htaccess file, and everything seems to be okay apart from the calendar links which all point to https://www.doctorvee.co.uk/%yea . Does anybody know what’s up?
